Reporter Brent Warren Wins Community Shares Media Award

Community Shares of Mid Ohio hosted their “Covering the Story” media awards recognition breakfast last Thursday, honoring several local journalists and reporters including Columbus Underground’s own Brent Warren. The award was given to recognize efforts to build community awareness and public support for nonprofits through fair, high-quality news coverage.

“Community Shares recognizes the needs of nonprofits go beyond funding to include volunteers, staffing and community awareness,” explained Teresa Trost, Executive Director of Community Shares. “This led us to create Covering the Story – Our Community Comes Together, an opportunity for nonprofits from Central Ohio to recognize and honor local reporters for their efforts.”

Warren received this year’s “Trending Now” award for his article “Columbus Localists Energized by BALLE Conference“, published in June 2013. For the article, Warren traveled to Buffalo for the Business Alliance for Local Living Economies annual conference to report on the takeaways of the event for Columbus thought leaders.

Additional awards went to Dan Gearino at The Dispatch and Mandie Trimble, Jackie Shafer and Andrew Ina, all at WOSU Public Media.
