I have no link, but just saw the plans for a new PUMA store coming to Easton.
The store will be located in the southern half of the old McDonald’s space, next to the new Coldwater Creek.

this is great news.
I saw this yesterday too. About time! Seems like Puma would have pulled even more money in this market if they had been at Easton 2 years ago as the fashion trend that favored Puma heavily began about 2-3 years ago. I personally have owned 4 pairs of Pumas in the last 2 years. I’m happy about the presence of Puma in our market.
I always want to buy a pair of their shoes but they are just smidge too small/too big for me. :(
oh sweet god.
Why must they do things like this while I’m not rich? *sigh*
Just when you think you have a clothing/shoe fetish under control Easton, goes and does this….
Just thought of something better…A Diesel Store, I still can remember that trip to Chicago my senior of high school and being introduced to the brand….
I have 5 pairs of Puma’s, except they never get worn since I always wear Sandals. But those suckers seems to last forever!
ooh! Anne and I stopped in the Diesel store for a few minutes awhile we were in the Castro District of San Francisco a few months ago and I thought that a store would be a nice fit in the Short North.
Come to think of it… I think a Puma store would be a better fit in the Short North too. Granted, they are “chains”, but they’re unique “destination chains” that will bring people into the neighborhood like American Apparel.
Or hell, why not put one of these stores downtown on Gay Street. That area is ripe for some unique destination retail like Puma or Diesel.
Was this posted in the Dispatch or another local paper. I tried to look up the story on the Dispatch website but came up with results relating the the actual cat! Will the Columbus store be the only Ohio location so far? If so, score for Columbus! I wonder what other stores are coming to Columbus in the coming months, year, and years???
Speaking of Diesel, they would probably do pretty good in the Short North/Victorian Village area since they have a store in the Castro District in San Francisco.
I am surprised that people would like to see diesel in the SN. I would have guessed most of you would not want to see the SN become just another suburban mall, with all of its pedestrian chains. Diesel just remindes me of upscale malls, lets get get the rest of the best down there as well BBW, A&F, hollister etc etc etc
really? i dont know of a single mall that has a diesel store in it… most of them are in major metropolitan areas… nyc has 3… sf, chicago… rome amsterdam etc. i dont know why that would make you think of a suburban mall…
Not that I’ve seen yet. CU with the scoop! ;)
According to the Puma store locator on their website… they have no stores listed in Ohio, so the Columbus one will be the only one unless they have plans to open somewhere else at the same time.
Retail has been around longer than the mall format has. Traditionally, retail was located in urban areas as a part of a vibrant streetscape. What’s wrong with wanting to return to shopping in an urban neighborhood instead of a mall?
And again, if we’re talking about destination chains like Puma, Diesel, American Apparel, etc that only have one Columbus store (or potentially one Ohio store) wouldn’t you rather see that be a reason for people to come to the Short North instead of Easton or Polaris?
As for the bigger chains that you mentioned (BBW, A&F, etc) I think there’s room downtown for them. As a German Village resident, if I need to go to BBW for whatever reason, I’d rather hit one downtown than venture out to spend my money at a mall. And right now I don’t have that choice. :(
I rather see a Fluevog’s www.fluevog.com open in the SN, than another jeans store, Italian, Latvian, or Cossack :D
Of course, I keep wanting to see someone open a cool Tiki Bar (with good polynesian food), in the SN. I think that would be great 8)
I’ve been a huge Diesel fan since high school and have traveled into many Diesel shops around the globe. They are not just another Jeans store IMO. Although they do make my fav jeans out of all brands. And the new styles they had at the store in NYC earlier this month were sweet! With that said, Diesel offers a lot more than jeans and I would be extremely broke if they put a shop anywhere close to columbus.
It would just sad to see the SN or the Grandview strip have A&F, Gap, Limited, Express, hollister, McDonalds, Hallmark store, etc etc It would just zap the life of the street. But thats just my opinion.
there are diesel stores in malls… vegas, dallas, michigan, beverly hills, miami, etc
Diesel and Puma are on such different levels than all of those stores. I mean, you’re not picking up a pair of 200 dollar jeans at any of those places (I think the last pair of Diesels I looked at were 175).
The Short North already has a White Castle, Donatos, UDF, Starbucks, Coldstone, and if you want to get technical about it, Jeni’s, Burgundy Room and MoJoe Lounge are chains too. So I guess the life was zapped out of the Short North a long time ago?
Seriously, I love to shop locally, but it’s unrealistic to expect everyone to do it 100% of the time. And it’s not like all “chain stores” are the same and they’re all evil.
If A&F decided they were going to buy that old shell station lot at the corner of Fifth & High and build an urban flagship store (maybe even with some residential units on top that they could house some of their relocated young buyers in) I’d be all about it. I wouldn’t shop there, but there’s no denying that it would totally add more life to the street than what the abondoned gas station is currently providing.
But if we’re talking about McDonald’s coming in to close down Betty’s and build a suburban fast food restaurant complete with giant parking lot and drive-thru well then… that would never fly with anyone in the area and would be a problem.
Some chains good. Some chains bad. It all comes down to evaluating developments on a case by case basis.

LOL, I didn’t know price determined “level”. Can you say snob.
And for fairness and equality, and chain should be welcome to SN if any are welcome. Once again, can you say snob.
uh price and quality DO determine level. i see nothing “snobby” about that…
