I just found this info in the Feburary agenda of the VV Comission. Looks like Pizzuti is the applicant, which is a different company then originally announced.
THE FOLLOWING APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE HEARD BEFORE 8:15PM
9. 08-2-17
632 North Park Street (UCT Building)
Pizzuti (Applicant)/ Order of the United Commercial Travelers of America (Owner)
An application, aerial photos, and massing studies have been submitted.
Conceptual Review
• Proposed mixed-use re-development of “UCT Block”.
• 10-Story boutique hotel fronting High Street (160 rooms and 7000-sqft of retail).
• Parking garage (400-500 spaces).
• Office/residential building totaling 40,000-50,000 square feet; including 5,000-sqft of retail.
• Cultural Center located in Park Street portion of existing structure.
• Conversion of Russell Street to one-way (west).
• Improvements to Millay Alley for pedestrian friendly access between High and Park streets.
I wonder what kind of “Cultural Center” and where they are going to put 40-50K square feet of office/Residential space? A 10 Story hotel with 160 rooms will have 17-18 per floor on that small lot! I would be interested to see this.

If I can weigh in on the parking garage debate which seems to exist in multiple threads, I really don’t have a problem with garages. Living outside of the outerbelt (outerloop), I frequent downtown and SN quite often usually for a night out or for some cultural activity. I prefer parking garages because they are easy to get in and out of and I don’t care for valets.
I don’t think having parking garages will deter from having streetcars (PS. If you don’t know me, I am huge advocate for streetcar, mass transit, etc.) because for people like me, I need somewhere to park when I get downtown. Once I park, I would love to have the opportunity to jump on a streetcar to get to various destinations. Even though it is not the case in this development project, parking garages add a vertical element which is far superior to parking lots.
in my mind the key to this one is “mixed-use” – hotel, retail/restaurant space, office, residential condos, and parking.
also keep in mind the pace here. by the time they get this thing completed, we’re probably looking at 2010 maybe even 2011. so there’s plenty of time to get the others inhabited.
what condos? if anything, i would say the short north lacks a descent number of condos. now if you’re talking downtown, that’s another story. i like the density of this project. i think to have a successful streetcar, a city must have as much density as possible within one to three blocks. i could seriously see a transit stop right around that developement, somewhere close to the cap, which would help its cause.
as far as the ibiza project goes, i just talked to the developer two weeks ago and he said that construction will start as soon as spring rolls around. right now, they are trying to move underground wires and whatnot. as far as jackson on high, couldn’t tell ya. i noticed they took the sign down, which make me initially worry that the project was scrapped. but then again i did see a backhoe, unless someone forgot to pick it up.
jackson on high…i noticed they took the sign down, which make me initially worry that the project was scrapped. but then again i did see a backhoe, unless someone forgot to pick it up.
didn’t the fencing off of the sidewalk occur at the same time that the billboard went down? that was my glimmer of positive hope that this meant construction was forthcoming.
About the Jackson… I would say that the wall coming down is a sign of the begining of construction. The real proof of this the fact that they altered the traffic lanes of High St to make a place for big trucks to drop off materials.
i thought they left the billboard up in front of the dakota during construction, probably for some sort of safety measure.
actually i’m reading the february agenda for victorian village commission now and it looks like they are still tweaking the exterior design of the building; roof elevations, design elements and removal of pool enclosure. (sucks for winter time) they better drop those condo fees.
“revised drawings have been submitted.” i hope they don’t change it too much. it’s a good looking building as it is now.
Isn’t that the new downtown career center for Columbus Public Schools?
Yes, that is some sort of school at Fourth and Main/Fulton area.
I hope that the Pizzuti family decides to house their much publicized art collection in the cultural center. How HOT would that be, facing Goodale Park, the new tete a tete waterfall sculpture, etc. Make it free of charge or model it after the Phillips Collection in Dupont Circle.

Originally, the Pizzuti collection was to be housed in this building:

I do not believe it will be. The building is now slated for future condo development.
