PromoWest Fest Kicks Off to a Roaring Start

A trip into the mind of Wayne Coyne brought day one of the inaugural PromoWest Fest to a close as The Flaming Lips brought their psychedelic live show to rain confetti, balloons and mind-expanding pop-rock onto McFerson Commons.

The Oklahoma band were the perfect headliners to kick-start what thus far seems to be an expertly run festival as music continued almost non-stop throughout the beautiful summers day on stages at the top and bottom of the park.

Prior to the Flaming Lips was alternative country rock singer-songwriter Ryan Adams who took the retro themed stage in an Ozzy Osbourne t-shirt and belted out his ragged-guitar rock to the sun-baked crowd.

Fitz & the Tantrums closed out the smaller north-side stage with an infectiously crowd-pleasing set as singers Michael Fitzpatrick and Noelle Scaggs turned the stage into a dance floor. Earlier in the day, Noel Gallagher and his High Flying Birds reminded everyone within earshot how good Oasis used to be.

Also performing on day one were Banners, Red Wanting Blue, The Wombats and X Ambassadors.

PromoWest Fest continues today with headline sets from The Decemberists and Snoop Dogg.
