Pricing and Floorplans Released for Fireproof Building

Pricing and floor-plans have been released for 56 apartment units in the Fireproof project in the Short North. Monthly rents range from $1,295 for a 785 square-foot studio to $3,300 for a 2,350 square-foot, two-bedroom unit.

The large two-bedroom units – there are four in total – are all located in the historic Fireproof building. The rest of the project is newly built and extends to the south of the former document storage building.

Mike Fitzpatrick of Elford Development said that each of the two-bedroom apartments will have four windows overlooking High Street.

“These units are very unique with lots of exposed brick walls, original concrete columns, open concrete ceilings, and exposed ductwork,” he said. “We believe the expansive size of the units and their authentic loft character will make them very popular.”

As for the rest of the project, Fitzpatrick said that they expect the demand to be strong for the mix of studios and one-bedrooms. Four of the six ground-floor retail spots are already spoken for, with Chipotle, Pies and Pints, Wright-Patt Credit Union, and a new concept from Tai Lui of Tai’s Asian Bistro all signed up so far.

Fitzpatrick said that they hope to have the first retail and residential tenants move in before the end of the year, with final completion of all elements of the project by mid-March of 2015.

The Confluence Cast: Grave Matters – Unearthing the North Graveyard

There is often a complex interplay between preservation and progress. A year into his exploration, Columbus Underground reporter Jesse Bethea continues to sift through the story of how the removal of remains from what was once the North Market parking lot unfolded. From the contentious removal of centuries-old graves to the forensic analysis of unearthed remains, today’s episode navigates the ethical, legal, and emotional complexities surrounding the issue.  In the quest to honor the past while embracing the future, we examine what lies beneath the surface of urban development and confront the ghosts of history that still shape our city today.
