Snowmine is a Brooklyn-based band that is making their way cross-country on a tour to support their new, self-released, album called Dialects. Their latest single is called “Columbus” and that’s exactly where they’ll be this Tuesday, April 8th. They’ll be performing at Double Happiness with Small Black and The Halamays.
The band is made up of five members, Grayson, Austin, Alex, Jay, and Calvin. Each member plays multiple instruments and every sound you’ll hear on this album was created in some way by one of the band members. Bassist Jay Goodman, drummer Alex Beckmann and Grayson Sanders were longtime friends before they decided to take their friendship to the next level — forming a band together. They crossed paths with Austin Mendenhall, who plays guitar. Before he joined Snowmine he was playing jazz in Washington DC. Calvin Pia rounded out the group with additional guitar, and was also an old friend.
The band has put together an ambient, atmospheric album. They used creative recording techniques, such as utilizing an old church to record a lot of the tracks, to create a kind of aural landscape. Their sound is a little like Boston band Magic Man, but a lot less poppy and a lot more laid back. Snowmine has also been compared to groups like Local Natives and Grizzly Bear.
Snowmine’s tunes are bound to sound great in an intimate venue like Double Happiness and fill the place with a great atmosphere. Doors for the show will be at 9 o’clock, and the first band will start at 9:30pm. The show will be for those 18 and over. You can grab tickets here or at the door. Since Snowmine is totally independent, the best way to get their album is to go directly to their website, www.snowmine.com. They’ve got a kickstarter like system set up to purchase the album and other cool stuff, like handwritten lyric books, backstage passes to their show or even a private listening party. Check out their single “Columbus” below and don’t forget to catch them this Tuesday night in the Brewery District.
