Doug Mains & The City Folk

Hailing from that state up north, tonight indie-folk band Doug and the Mains will play a show at Kafe Kerouac at 8:00. But don’t let the fact that they’re from Michigan discredit them. This isn’t your standard indie fare.

Featuring five members -and instruments that include an upright bass and accordion players- this show will definitely be good start to anyone’s weekend. A friend and I listened to a few tracks and “Come on Brothers” -which he noted had an “O, Brother, Where Art Thou” feel- and “Broken Windows” are some of the stand outs.

It seems guitarist and songwriter, Doug Mains, has some ties in Columbus, citing the Scarlet and Grey Café, Taj Mahal, and Ruby Tuesday as a place to play during open mic sessions. In support of their debut album, “The Mountain’s King,” released in February of this year, the band is embarking on a 27-city tour. If you miss them tonight, they are also playing a show at Corner Bloc Coffee in Cincinnati on Monday.

Doug Mains & The City Folk are playing tonight at Kafe Kerouac. This all ages show starts at 8:00 and tickets are only $5.
