A sizable chunk of the parking lot surrounding the Shops at Worthington Place has been replaced by a 59-unit apartment building – pre-leasing is underway for those units, while construction continues on a second, larger building next door that will hold 134 apartments and about 20,000 square feet of commercial space.
Stephen Brothers-McGrew, Marketing Manager for developer Crawford Hoying, is hopeful that the apartments can fill a void in the Worthington market – providing modern amenities within walking distance of shops, restaurants and groceries.
“We’ve had a good beginning to pre-leasing, and I expect it to really pick up in the next 30 days,” he said, adding that they are close to signing a tenant for the commercial portion of the development.
Some changes have been made since the development – called The Heights at Worthington Place – was first approved last summer. Fourteen one-bedroom apartments in the larger building were converted into seven three-bedroom units, in response to early demand for larger units. The overall unit mix is now 80 one-bedrooms, 103 two-bedrooms, and 10 three-bedrooms. Prices for the 59 units in the smaller building range from $990 to $1,440 per month.
Brothers-McGrew said that they hope to have all of the apartments in that building online by early September, and to wrap up construction on the larger building by early spring of 2015.
He also provided an update on another Crawford-Hoying project, The Lane in Upper Arlington, a 108-unit mixed-use building that he said will soon be 100-percent leased. Like Worthington Place, The Lane is an attempt to bring a more urban style of apartments to a suburban, mall-adjacent location.
