Check out some of our most recent examples of spirit below:

Youth at Kilbourne Middle School in Worthington raised funds for Canine Companions for Independence during their fall project and thanked Sergeant Chad Clark for his recognition of the Wounded Veterans Initiative during the Veteran’s Day program at the school. Great and inspiring work all around!

Christina Murphy, who won The Columbus Marathon, came to chat with the Girls on the Run of Franklin County group at Tremont Elementary School and got them pumped up to run in advance of their successful and inspiring 5K. Awesome!

Filmmaker, artist, and writer Miranda July thrilled a capacity crowd during her artist talk in CCAD’s Canzani Center Auditorium. The award-winning filmmaker and best-selling author shared stories, videos, and entertained questions before signing items afterwards. Don’t miss CCAD’s continuing run of great and free events.

Congratulations to Tanny Crane, the 2013 recipient of the Julian Sinclair Smith Award. The library award honors individuals in Franklin County that have a passion for lifelong learning. Crane accepted the award during the Columbus Metropolitan Library Foundation’s annual Celebration of Learning gala. In addition to hearing from award-winning author Wil Haygood and recognizing Crane, over $500,000 was raised to support Columbus Metropolitan Library!

Barred owls smooching at Blacklick Woods (by Brad Paskievitch) won People’s Choice Award at this year’s Metro Parks Nature Print Contest.

The Ohio State School of Music Percussion Ensemble in collaboration with first-year MFA students presented a free and open to the public “Musicircus” at HamMer Studio featuring the music of iconic American composer John Cage. HamMer Studio is the art studio of Ohio State faculty Ann Hamilton and Michael Mercil who also got in on the fun and music.

Columbus Foundation staff members enjoyed building tables for the Furniture Bank of Central Ohio, winner of the 2013 Columbus Foundation Award. We were glad to have Shirley Brooks-Jones and a few more volunteers on hand to help with the effort. Learn more about the Furniture Bank at www.furniturebankcoh.org.

With fresh snowfall, the beauty of different seasons came together throughout our community. Pictured here is Columbus Park of Roses.

Thank you veterans for your bravery, service, and sacrifice.
Pictured here are members of the Ohio Army National Guard’s 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team marching in the annual Columbus Veterans Day parade.

People of all ages lined the streets of downtown to honor veterans and show support during the annual Columbus Veterans Day parade, which paid special honor to two groups this year (Ohio Army National Guard’s 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team and Korean War veterans).
