According to a new Quinnipiac Poll, Ohio voters support the use of medical marijuana by an 87% margin and support same-sex marriage by 50%. Additionally, Ohioans support the idea of adults legally possessing small amounts of marijuana for personal use by a margin of 51%. Both issues could see ballot initiatives in 2016.
“Ohioans’ views of marijuana are complicated,” said Peter Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. “Twice as many voters think alcohol is more dangerous than marijuana, and about half the state’s voters think the two are equally harmful.”
The growing support for same sex marriage revealed a 50 – 44 split between supporters and non-supporters with divisions on the issue split along gender, age and political lines. Women, democrats and younger voters were all most likely to be in favor of same sex marriage laws, which could lead to a change in Ohio’s same sex marriage ban.
“Given that younger voters support same sex marriage almost 3-1, it would seem to be just a matter of time,” said Brown.
