Pistachio bakery ceased to exist in the Short North in mid-August so it could be reborn as Pistacia Vera in German Village.

The new location has a lot of history to it, the original building has been in place since the 1880′s. The new space has some great design features as well as natural lighting. The staff are a pleasure to interact with. Pistachia Vera is well placed for a perfect weekend morning in German Village, it is located within easy walking distance of the Book Loft and Katzinger’s Deli.

All of the goodies remain – pastries, cookies, confections, truffles, tarts, tortes and more. My favorite are the macarons – in particular pistachio and pecan. These half dollar sized cookies offer perfection for $1

I also learned something on my latest trip. Since Pistacia uses the finest ingredients and no preservatives – they advise that all desserts be consumed within three days of purchase. In my case, I am struggling not to eat all of them within three minutes.

Pistacia Vera is the name for the tree that bears pistachio nuts.

  • There are a handful of places in Columbus that would stand on their own anywhere. Pistachio is one of those. Please give them your business. Columbus needs to keep this place as, to my knowledge, there really isn’t anything else remotely comparable locally in terms of quality. I have no connection to them other than as a customer. Hopefully they will have some real competition someday.

  • Spent and ate $20 in 5 minutes there on Saturday

Service was impeccable. Space is delightful. Treats are … phenomenal.

Really, the tiramisu was incredible. And, the lemon, pine nut thingy quite perfect.

I cannot recommend this place enough…

On the other hand, after gorging, I went to Substance to try on dresses and got stuck in a cute little wrap number. Had to have the sales lady pry it over my head. Proud moment. Hope I didn’t still have tiramisu on my chin.

  • i cant wait to check out his place, i never got around to go when they were at the old location, i hear nothing but good things about this place.

  • This place is insanely good. I really like the interior too, it’s very clean without a sterile feel. Whenever I eat in Katzinger’s I’ll know exactly where I’m going for dessert.

  • I wasn’t sure I’d dig this place. I’m still pining for Thurns basic glazed yeast donuts. Everyone loved when it was my turn to buy treats for weekly staff meeting. There’s no donuts downtown, a tragic situation almost as alarming as the lack of decent Chinese delivery.

But this place is sublime! Nice helpful clerks if you ask questions. Gorgeous little boxes. The best cookies and little treats ever. Priced fairly.

They’ve done a fantastic job on the in- and exterior design, good space planning, natural light, attractive display cases, and a clean, partly exposed kitchen. I think all the huge floor-to-ceiling side windows open up.

Anyone know who designed the rehab?

  • BTW roy, there are doughnuts out on S. High just a little ways south of GV. Don’t get me wrong, I miss Thurn’s too, but I love Buckeye too :)

  • I stopped in last week while securing my new apartment and was blown away by this place. The space is open and beautiful, and the treats…yum. I spent about $10 and got a fabulous assortment of things. It was gorgeous outside so I sat on one of the benches outside and sampled until my stomach exploded. I tried the risotto pudding which was absolutely amazing and in the cutest little square container. I also had one of the caramel pecan macaroons, and a golden raisin/rosemary/parmigiano reggiano scone. They had free samples of the cashew caramels that day and the super helpful and really nice Katie put 2 of them in my carryout box. I can’t wait to go back and try the lemon pine nut tart and this blueberry crumble pudding thing and the caramel chocolate peanut butter whatchamajiggie. It may be a big mistake living so close to this place. :)

    Ha! Welcome to my world!

I’ve become a huge fan lately of the $1 cookies on the counter next to the glass case. The pistacio covered, chocolate, and almond varieties are phenomenal.

Oh…and not to take any business away from Pistacia, but they’ve got white chocolate chip pumpkin spice muffins at Cup O’ Joe that I’ve taken a serious liking to lately.

  • I was tempted by those pistachio cookies, but I didn’t get one…definitely next time…and maybe the cookies labeled “sweet wine.” I found that intriguing too. Oh and then the chocolate mint macaroons. Good heavens.

I’ll have to try one of those pumpkin muffins. I am a fan of a good muffin and a latte every once in a while.

  • I think the upside of pistachio though, it’s real food, and it’s so filling it’s not like you’re sitting down eating a whole cake.

  • Thank you Core. I have been forever championing that cookies, cakes, tarts and puddings are real food and that an assortment of them makes quite a good dinner. :)

  • I might try to live solely on the lemon tarts with pine nut crust and the risotto pudding.
