I couldn't sleep, and as some of you may know, I recently had a full thyroidectomy because of hyperthyroidism, nodules, and what was found to be a carcinoma. It is somewhat lame to say I'm a cancer survivor for two reasons: one is that I smoke, so, I'm not doing myself any favors, and two, it was very very very small, and these kinds of things rarely spread. But for others, this can be a very serious thing.
I also had a slight risk of losing of my voice, and I was very anxious about that because I love to sing. So, its been a little over a month, and I guess I'm okay, I guess I can sing (some people can't after neck surgery), so here is a song that means something to me, John Prine's Angel from Montgomery:
Anyway, many ways to interpret this song, and hopefully it doesn't break your ipod.
I feel very blessed, and I thank God for looking out for me, as well as those helped me.
If you have a kazoo, banjo, hair metal guitar and amp cranked to 11, violin, a pencil and your desk, or whatever, maybe hum along some and send some thoughts out for those good doctors, nurses, aides, pca's, patients, and patient family members over at the James Cancer Hospital at OSU. Think about volunteering somewhere, especially if your work lets you take off for it (do it!), and also Leatherlips Yacht Club in Shawnee Hills is having a 24 hour endurance race for leukemia on Memorial Day, and that's where I'll be, shameless dropping a wad of cash.
I'd love to hear about anyone else's stories about passed loved ones or cancer survivors. Or, conversely, since this is the internet, snarky funny comments about how lame I am ;p
