    Photos: GWAR at The Newport

The unquestionably unique live experience that is Gwar returned to Columbus on Friday night to bring their intergalactic shock-comedy thrash-metal performance art to the Newport Music Hall stage.

As usual the performance relied heavily on dousing the wanting masses of white-shirt clad fans with multi-coloured liquids that shot out of various creatures that were unceremoniously ripped to pieces during the choreographed fights that often take all the attention away from the music.

Political satire has become prime ammo in recent years for the Gwar cannon and that trend continued as caricature versions of Obama, Trump and a supersized Jesus Christ (happy Easter?) were sent out on stage for brutal destruction that served to further fuel an already wild crowd that quickly turned to a sea of red and green splattered and happy metalheads.

Columbus based thrashers Takacs, and experimental noise pushers, Brain Tentacles opened the show.
