    Philanthropy Friday: Columbus’ Surprising Past

How many Christopher Columbus statues are there in Columbus? What was the first tax for Columbus citizens? How did Columbus get its name? These are just a few of the questions that The Columbus Foundation’s Michael Wilkos has found surprising answers for.

Wilkos, senior Community Research and Grants Management officer, was recently named Columbus’ #1 Fan by Columbus Monthly. “He has an uncanny ability to find both interesting and new information about commonly known subjects while also finding the lighter side,” said Doug Kridler, Columbus Foundation president and CEO.

The presentation was prepared as part of The Columbus Foundation’s ongoing efforts to enhance civic pride and community knowledge while also celebrating the bicentennial. Watch Wilkos’ TED-style presentation below and prepare yourself to see Columbus in a new light.
