Pearl Market Opens Downtown Today

By: Anne

Mayor Michael B. Coleman will be heading up the opening kick-off of the Pearl Market today at 10:30am. Pearl Market is located in Pearl Alley one block north of the Ohio Statehouse. This year over fifty vendors have signed up to bring you wonderful fresh produce, delicious baked goods and one of a kind crafts. After the opening some of the vendors will only be there on Fridays; check the website for the vendor schedule. Future dates and hours: Every Tuesday and Friday, 10:30 am – 2 pm, May 19 – October 30, 2009. Enjoy!

  • Awesome!  This is really close to where I live and will undoubtedly be less chaotic that North Market.  It’s nice to see these things coming downtown.

  • I might swing by this afternoon to scope it out. ;)

  • Tim and I picked up some jalapeno plants, heirloom tomato plants and some herbs for Tip Top’s roof garden. They are bringing more hot pepper plants on Friday. Great selection of plants!

Carlos from El Arapazo had his grill going w/ steak skewers and grilled potatoes and asparagus. It smelled absolutely amazing.

Great day to visit the market!

  • New vendor, Si Senor, had a great beef tip sandwich and homemade chips… yum.  Also bought some cilantro for my spice garden.  Excellent job to the market folks.

  • I’d like to thank the Pearl Market for helping us out with a tent for Village Valuables this past weekend.   May the karma come back to them x1,000.

  • I wasn’t able to make it over there today after lunch (the kiddo was ready for a nap) but I did finally make it to Cook Shack BBQ for lunch around the corner in the Atlas Building, who is one of the pearl-market-vendors-gone-full-time into a downtown retail space. The market is a great incubator opportunity for businesses to get their feet wet downtown before hopping into a full time space. :D

  • Is the samosa place back?

  • I didn’t see the samosa place!! however, I  know they are one of the approved vendors, so I am hoping they’ll be there on Friday.

  • I agree, Si Senor was great, I had an awesome vegetarian egg salad sandwich and some delicious cookies with dulce de leche!

  • ‘Si Senor’ Jumping Beef Sandwich is really good, it’s like a wet philly cheesesteak, really fresh tasting. I like the chips that come with it as well.  I want to try ‘Say Cheez!’ next, their Po’Boy sandwiches looked great, shrimp and Tilapia.  I also want to check out the Jamaican truck.  Everything looked really good, although I’m not much for crowds and people kept getting in my way, it was a nice trip.

  • I’m so glad I got over there today, after being out of town for the first one. Big selection the early in the sesaon – congrats! Got some of the best strawberries I’ve ever eaten, and a couple of veggie plants for the garden.

  • So, last Tuesday I went to the Gyro n Egg Roll stand.  An interesting combo.  Guess what I had to eat?   That’s right, a gyro and an egg roll!  They were ok.  I liked the gyro better than the egg roll.  the gyro had too much sauce on it and the pita kinda fell apart which makes for sloppy eating, but it worked.  Today I want to try the Tiger Shrimp Po Boy.

EDIT: ARGH!! it seemed everyone was out of the food I wanted, no po’boys, no samosas, …went to Euro Cafe, still a good selection, I’m happy!

  • ‘Si Senor’ Jumping Beef Sandwich is still really good, it might be my favorite sandwich in Columbus.  It is so flavorful, and the meat is very tender.  It really is perfect and needs nothing.  the right amount of spice and juice.  It might be on the higher end of sandwich costs at above $7, but it is worth it, I’ve never had anything quite like it. You can only get this downtown 2 days a week, don’t sleep on this one.

  • Interesting. Will have to try it out. :D

  • mmm, I just picked up a delicious slice of blackberry pie. From Stevens Bakery & Orchard. very good!
Downtown otherwise is missing a place to get pie! :)
