Despite the rain, the Pearl Market kicked off their 2010 summer season this morning. The market is hosting a record number of vendors this year which range from prepared ethnic foods to flowers, produce, cheeses, meats and other farmers market grocery items.
The Pearl Market runs every Tuesday and Friday from 10:30am to 2:00pm from May 18th through October 29th and can be found in Pearl and Lynn Alleys between Gay Street and Broad Street.
Another new addition this year is the ability to accept major credit cards at the market, so customers don’t necessarily have to have cash handy to participate.

too bad it is raining so hard today! :( I am looking forward to the market this year.
Yeah, it was coming down pretty hard by noon. Ah well. Friday should be warm and sunny. :D
I love the market. Kacey Campbell did a great job building on it last year and I’m sure it will be fun to visit again this year, sans rain! I look forward to seeing what vendors are on for the season and getting some fresh flavors.
We wanted to head down there yesterday, but there was just so much damn rain that we’re putting it off until later this week. Both P. and I are crazy about Nellie’s meat samosas.
I found myself unable to leave work without eating a (meatless) samosa. I just couldn’t resist the temptation.
So how is Gay St parking during Pearl Market? I’d love to stop by sometime for lunch, but I don’t have much time for lunch and hunting for a spot takes up too much time.
I don’t recall exact rates off the top of my head (and they’re going to be changing soon anyway), but it’s most expensive right now between High & Pearl. Park closer to Tip Top or the other way between High & Front. It’s even cheaper if you park over on Sixth between Gay & Long and just walk the few blocks to the Pearl Market.
I found a meter in Pearl Alley just across Gay Street from the market. You can usually find a meter on 3rd south of Gay or on Gay west of 3rd. If not, the Statehouse lot is the best bargain around. I think it’s $2 for the 1st hour and $1 an hour after that.
You can always consider the City Center lot, as well. It’s a little bit more pricey (I think it’s $3 for 0-2 hrs, and $5 after that), but it’s only a couple blocks and an easy walk.
