According to their email newsletter, Paul Robinett Aromatherapy Candles will be vacating their store at 7 Buttles Avenue by January 31st. The building they’re located in is undergoing construction and they were asked to end their lease.
The newsletter goes on to say that they’re looking for a retail space to relocate, but nothing in the Short North is available that fits their needs at the moment. In the meantime, their candles will continue to be sold online at www.paulrobinett.com.

I’d love to see them move Downtown instead. ;) Good luck with the relocation, Paul!
Yes, good luck with the move, maybe you should follow Northstar Cafe to Easton and continue the local takeover ;-)
Look forward to wherever you end up, best candles ever.
*sob*
Best of luck in the relocation, Short North will miss you terribly!
I wonder, perhaps is there is an affordable spot at South Campus Gateway? (alas, given how businesses are moving around there,
there may likely be an opening, heh). I believe that could be a good location, as well!
That’s too bad. I love smelling this place on my way to Jeni’s. They smell good at home, too.
So I heard mention that Dae OH has plans to (relocate) Typhoon to this corner building @ High and Buttles – also heard mention of a seasonal rooftop bar etc as well as a boutique hotel occupying the current apartment residential floors. Does this mean Jacquie Mahan will relocate? If someone is going to soak this amount of cash into a building (which is good because the building does need brought back to prominence) they have to own it…?
I’ve worked part time at the candle shop for over 7 years, and this is really sad news to me. There’s a lot I love about the shop and the space at 7 Buttles – it represents a lot about what I love about Columbus, the people there, and Columbus’ small businesses. Please, if someone finds a good space, especially in Short North, let us know – I would hate to see the business go under.

I’ve only heard the restaurant rumors, and I’m kind of disappointed by that. The hotel rumor sounds like it would be an interesting addition for the area, but I feel like the Short North is hitting a point of restaurant saturation. The fact that the folks at Paul Robinett can’t find another suitable retail location in the area should be a pretty good indicator that retail space is still in demand.
I am pretty certain they are going to be staying in the Short North. They are a staple for the neighborhood and I think the Short North is as important to Paul Robinett as the store is to it. That is a beautiful space and great for them, but this could be a blessing in disguise. I can speak from experience what a difference a move to High St. from a side street makes.
I stopped by tonight, and he seems like a nice guy and the best of luck to wherever he relocates to….
What will this mean for the Mahan Gallery as ilovethiscity pointed out?
Paul is definitely one of the most interesting people I’ve met in Columbus over the years. Ask him about his various inventions some time, really some interesting stories there.
planet smoothie location is great and the size works. I’m not sure about rent but I think that’s a good start.
We were recently discussing doing a signature fragrance for CW and carrying his line to further support local product. We have offered him a home under our roof until he finds another space and I hope he will accept!
I think his line is an incredible fit. His very first store was filled to the brim with antiques for sale and used as fixtures. I remember him giving me the tour of his store and studio and he was soooo cool! He is one of the mentor-entrepreneurs that inspired me to open in the Short North. The out pouring of fans and supporters, I know has meant a lot to him since the announcement. Burning Champa as I type this….
I will definitely miss the wonderful smells that fill our building each day, it’s sad to see Paul Robinett leave the High Buttles building. As for us, we are not going anywhere and are currently planning and curating our 2010 show schedule- our first 2010 show opens February 5th and features the work of Columbus Natives Thom Lessner and Patrick O’Dell.
As for that rooftop bar? I am really hoping that is a really bad rumor, floors 2-4 are apartments and I can’t imagine they would put in a new elevator specifically for the rooftop.
update via their twitter: UPDATE!!! We haven’t found a new location yet, but just got word that we’ll be able to stay at 7 Buttles Ave for at least another month!!!
Thanks for the update-post Anne! It’s TRUE! We’re still here! And we may be able to stay into early spring… Read details here: http://www.paulrobinett.com/Newsletter_s/30.htm
