Market Garden Brews Coming to Columbus

Beginning this week Cleveland’s Market Garden Brewery started distributing in Central Ohio.

Their Prosperity Wheat and Festivus brews are now available after a new 35,000 square foot production brewery, open earlier this year, allowed them to expand their distribution. Two others, Citramax and Progress won’t be available for another few weeks. Right now distribution is limited to kegs, but bottles — and more beers — will be available in Columbus by early 2017, according to a press release.

    Four String’s Fifth Anniversary

Four String Brewing Company is celebrating its fifth anniversary next Saturday with an all-day party and bottle release at their taproom at 985 West 6th Avenue. Ajumama will be there with Korean street food, and they’ll also have live music.

Several versions of two of their brews, Motor Breath Imperial Stout and Ghost Ship Vortex Baltic Porter, will be available in bottles that night, including OYO Bourbon Barrel Aged, OYO Maple Bourbon Barrel Aged and Honey-Vanilla Bean Bourbon. Another 40 beers will be on tap.

“We brewed Motor Breath Imperial Stout, and Ghost Ship Vortex Baltic Porter at the end of last year, and they have only improved since,” said brewer Larry Horwitz in a press release. “This year we did something extra special by aging these beers in different second use OYO wood barrels for three months. It’s a fantastic local collaboration that we’re pumped to share.”

The party will go from noon to midnight, but the bottles probably won’t last that long. Text to Win contest winners will have a VIP tasting party beginning at 11 a.m.

Middle West Spirits Releases Vim & Petal

Co-owners Ryan Lang and Brady Konya are releasing their first gin product — Vim & Petal — since starting Middle West Spirits seven years ago.

“Vim & Petal was born from the idea of finding a balance between the soft and strong, the sweet and the savory, the masculine and the feminine — which made for a project that was both fun and challenging on so many levels,” Konya said in an email. “Its a very good example of where the culinary and distilling worlds can and do collide.”

Konya described Vim & Petal as light, balanced, and clean with “aromas of citrus, spice, and saffron.”

Rather than having an OYO Gin, Konya and Lang wanted to see how a “stand alone product  might work alongside our current line-up under the Middle West umbrella — both here in Ohio and in other markets across the US.”

Vim & Petal will be officially launched today, November 4.
