Outlook Media announced on Monday that they will cease publication of Outlook Weekly with the final issue being released on March 25th. They will be replacing it with a new free monthly publication called Outlook Columbus.
“We’ve always had a plan for creating a monthly publication to take the place of Outlook Weekly,” said Michael Daniels, Outlook Media co-publisher and business director. “Our advertisers are seeking a way to reach our readers with a publication that offers more rich content and long-term shelf life than a weekly tabloid can offer.”
Outlook Columbus is expected to hit newstands in early May.

The only thing I don’t understand with this explination is that now the Outlook claims to offer a better service to the advertisers and also now has reduced the monthly printing costs by 75%. Yet they make no mention of cutting positions of workers at the publication. Seems like increased sucess with your adverts and less overhead would be a move that would allow for someone that works there to have a safety blanket. However I know one of my good friends got the axe from outlook recently over this issue. I guess sometimes saying that your changing format is better than flat out saying that we are failing and may go out of business.
Best wishes to Outlook (nay ; any print media) as they transition to monthly.
Thanks for passing this along, Walker!
Agreed to “Geoff’s post”
to coreroc
I’m guessing that the better service to advertisers would be they would only have to pay&create only one ad. that will last a month.
Where some advertisers create a different add every week.
Also..saving on the monthly printing costs.. I like to hang out at coffee shops and I’ve noticed them (as well as having worked in a bar for 14yrs) how many of the weekly papers get put into the dumpster/recycled when the new issue comes out.
This is what I’m thinking they are saving on printing costs for.
Yes with the economy and business need to tighten their belts to survive.
I wouldn’t want to see outlook fall from the presses as others in the past gaybeat, and lil brother, stonewall reports, columbus metro(printed on copy paper and stapled in the middle) and a couple others names which escapes me.
just sharin.
It is sad in a great gay community like Columbus, all we have is the Outlook to report to the gay community. Most of the stories are off of the “gay AP” and have little to do with Columbus. There are so many news worthy gay themed stories in Columbus, but they are rarely reported in the Outlook. Maybe they do not want to anger their advertisers? Story ideas: why no gay partner registry in Columbus? Why the downfall of gay business and bars in Columbus? Why a certain gay bar is making its employees sign no compete clauses. Come on Outlook, get to some real journalism and real stories. We are tired of the fluff.
FYI: There’s a launch party for this tonight at Havana at 8pm.
