Ohio State University usually likes to lead the pack when it comes to Top 25 lists, but not this time. According to the music industry, Ohio State has received 2,336 letters about students pirating music during the past school year - more than any other college nationwide.
“It gives us a broad snapshot of the extent to which piracy is a problem on a campus,” said Cara Duckworth, spokeswoman for the Recording Industry Association of America, which is based in Washington, D.C.
Ohio State officials speculated that they received so many notices because OSU is the largest school in the country, with about 60,000 students. However, Ohio State didn’t make the recording industry association’s first list of top offenders, which tallied notices from Sept. 1, 2007, to Nov. 9, 2007.
Although students are primarily the ones involved in the music piracy, offenders could be anyone at the universities with access to the computer system.

Gee, largest university in the nation has the most pirating. What a concept! ;)

Should this really be under “Art News”? Shouldn’t be under “Music News”, or just “News News”?
(PS- Try saying “News” a bunch of times. It starts sounding a little alien on the tongue after about the third or forth time. Like “scuba”.)

Are you saying that Music isn’t Art?
Anyway, “Music News” would make more sense, but we don’t have a music news section. It’s called DoneWaiting. ;)

I’d rather read the bible.

I assume your problem is with the DoneWaiting forums. I’m talking about the front page of the site. It’s a great resource for local music news.

i have yet to see a percentage statistic. last i knew, osu was the largest, or in the top 3 largest colleges. why would this surprise anyone at all? give me a percentage of pirating students vs other schools. then i could give 2 cents.

I think the implication of the article is that OSU students just happen to be the most unethical in the nation.

yes, yes, wonderful site in that regard! not sure what brings out the loonies in music (heh) but i know the cringe guy didn’t wanna deal with it

The definitions of “art” and “music” are a slippery slope to be treading down (and everybody gets mad at me when I do), yet I think Dewey would have my back on this and move this story on over to a different decimal.

I have never downloaded a single song from the internet that was not supposed to be free. I have a couple DJ friends who are considering switching to CD’s. You know what they’re doing? They’re STEALING songs on the internet and burning them onto CD. Between this and those Brutus statues, I think I really am going to go vomit now…

Statues of Brutus? The guy who helped plot the murder of Caesar, or the OSU mascot? Oh wait, we’re in Columbus, why am I bothering to ask…
Y’know what would be really cool is a sculpture of Brutus the Buckeye stabbing Caesar. Only Caesar should look uncannily like George W Bush.
