Olde Towne East Featured in The Dispatch

By: Walker

The ongoing “Where we Live” Dispatch series continues with a spotlight on Olde Towne East. Located immediately adjacent to Downtown Columbus, this large east side neighborhood features historic homes, a small but vibrant business community, one of the best urban parks in the region, and plenty of potential for future growth.

  • Of course AWOL is left out of the article and it just gets better all the time. AWOL has been around longer than all the other places mentioned and has a great outdoor patio area.
Also it was Bryden and Parsons that was the bad drug dealing corner and not Oak and Parsons.
Olde Town East does have some real cool houses and i know of 5 homes fixed up by just one friend of mine….and he is one of the gays of course : )

  • Chop Chop was also left out. Plenty of cool stuff in OTE. ;)

  • I’m disappointed in the vibe of the article overall. It continues to feed the perception that OTE is “almost there” instead of “already there.” I’m sick of almost there.

  • Well, in all fairness, OTE is a pretty huge area, and I’d say that parts of it are definitely “already there” while other parts still need a lot of work and TLC. The boarded up buildings along Oak near Yellow Brick and Angry Baker certainly still have their best days ahead of them. And don’t forget that everything south of Main Street is a part of the neighborhood as well. I’d chalk most of that up in the “almost there” pile.

Overall, I’ve been pretty happy with this series in The Dispatch, considering that their audience is much wider and regional, and I’m sure a large portion of their readers have never even set foot into some of these areas at all. It provides at least a small bit of counterbalance to what they get on the nightly tv news when they’re bombarded with crime information and other bad news, but rarely hear about the good things happening.

Keep up the great work, Mark Ferenchik!
