Nothing goes together like beer and video games. That’s what the team behind Old North Arcade is banking on, as they have formally applied last month for zoning and parking variance changes to open their new bar and arcade business at 2591 North High Street, in the former Sunflower Natural Foods space.
The 2,400 square foot building would host free-to-play arcade games in the front half of the building with a full service bar in the back. No on-site kitchen is planned. A parking variance is required, as the business only has three parking spaces in back, though the owners have secured a parking arrangement with the nearby Crosby Drugs and Ace Hardware stores for after-hours parking lot usage.
According to the Old North Arcade website, possible arcade cabinets may include classics like Asteroids, Centipede and Space Invaders, as well as 90s-era games like X-Men, The Simpsons and Mortal Kombat 3. Box art is also shown for a variety of NES, SNES, Nintendo 64 and Genesis systems, indicating that console gaming may be available to customers.
There is no current opening date that has been announced. We have contacted the owners of the new business for details and will update the story with more information as it is made available.
