    Ohio’s Own: Tasha’s Treats

    Is it pumpkin season yet?

No? … How about now? Is it pumpkin season now?

    Now?

For those who wait all year for pumpkin flavored coffee, ice cream, lattes, soups and pies, the time has come. Pumpkin stuff has hit the shelves. One item that should be on the get-list this year is Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies from Tasha’s Treats.

There are a couple reasons for this call. First, the cookie tastes like pumpkin. It has that natural mellow pumpkin accent, unpolluted by excessive doses of cinnamon and nutmeg.* It’s a crumbly, thick sugar cookie, tinged with the flavor of autumn.

But there’s another reason to give it a whirl: Tasha’s Treats puts chocolate chips in that pumpkin cookie. Often the choice to go with a pumpkin dessert leaves an eater sadly chocolate-free. That’s not the case with these babies: big giant chunks of intensely flavored chocolate chips charge up the soothing pumpkiny foundation. And then there’s some sugary sweet icing to tie it all together.

And, one you’ve satisfied your pumpkin mojo, the baker has other flavors of cookies too, such as: toffee caramel, m&m, and one called Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip. The latter starts with the foundation of that sweet sugar-cookie-esque base, this time with a peanut buttery accent. The bakery piles chocolate chips, peanut butter cups, and peanut butter chips inside. In one fell swoop, it provides lots of candy goodness with sweet cookie holding it all together for every bite.

And that bit of magic will be around long after the pumpkin cravings have faded.

Tasha’s Treats bakes out of Dublin, Ohio, but you can pick up packages of these cookies at gourmet grocers such as Hill’s and Weiland’s.

*There may actually be nutmeg and cinnamon in the cookie. Heck, there might be pixie dust in there too. The ingredient list is on the label, and the font in microscopically tiny.
