For the first time since 2004, the Ohio State Fair has landed in the black. When the checks have rolled in and the bills have been paid, the 2008 fair will post a profit of $300,000, its financial director told the fair board yesterday.
The Ohio Expositions Center, which runs the fair and the fairgrounds, has a $12.5 million operating budget. The state provides a chunk of money to support the youth portion of the fair. This year that was $400,000; next year it’ll be cut to $360,000 because of the state budget crunch.
