The economic recession hasn’t prevented Ohioans from spending money on booze. In fact… it sounds like it’s actually helping that sector of our economy.
According to an announcement released today by the Ohio Department of Commerce, liquor sales have reached a record high for the 2009 fiscal year. A total of $729.9 million was spent on spirits throughout the state of Ohio, a 4.6% increase over 2008 sales figures.
A total of 10.6 million gallons of spirtous liquor was sold in Ohio in 2009. Congratulations to everyone involved in helping to set this new record!

Good job, CU. Way to uphold our economy!
Wonder if any of that is tied to people being depressed.
When times are good, people drink, and when times are bad, they drink more!
(Alternatively: When times are good, people want to drink, and when times are bad, they need to.) 8)
It seems more like a social trend to me than an economic one. More people are interested now in cocktails, where as 5 years ago, it was wine and for a 100 years before that it was beer.
this in a year when sherm, Core, and i all took a whole month off drinking!
I did my part!
Yay us!

You’re welcome.
where did the amazing image come from? i love it though i would have preferred seeing brown liquor being poured into ohio representin’ our faithful whiskey drinkers! month after month vodka is the most consumed liquor in ohio. i’d love to see some old crow bump it out just one month.
Walker made it. ;)
Ha! Glad you liked that, Liz. It’s a photoshopped combination of this image, this image, and this image. ;)
