Columbus, say hello to O Hi Yoga!

While taking a break from the full-time corporate world to raise her kids, Olde Towne East resident Heather Sheets saw a moving van emptying a business space in her neighborhood, and next thing she knew, she was telling her husband that she had signed a lease to open a new yoga studio at 717 Oak Street near the intersection at Parsons Avenue.

Columbus Underground wants to help you make New Year’s Resolutions that last with a week of articles focused on health and wellness, brought to you by our friends at YMCA of Central Ohio.

A long-time yoga student, Sheets fell in love with yoga after injuries forced her out of basket and volleyball.

“At first it was about the working out, but I found so much more,” she explained. “After my last pregnancy, I ballooned,. Yoga helped me lose weight, but I gained much more.”

Sheets and her husband spent uncounted hours rehabbing the former printing shop on Oak Street into a yoga studio that can serve “everybody and every body”. O Hi Yoga officially opened on January 2nd.

“Isn’t the name just awesome?” asked Sheets. “I am an OSU alum, and I was teaching the Carmen Ohio song to my kid. We were just singing away and O-HI-Yoga just came naturally.”

A graphic designer friend helped Sheets come up with the logo, and she carefully chose the fabrics to feel “extra-silky good” as well as be practical for working out. Large windows in the front of the building let natural light flow in from the large lobby, there is a powerful fan to keep air moving, and they’ve installed a clean, new floor.

Amenities: 8. Audio: 8. Workout: 8-9. Overall score: 8.5. $13 drop in fee; various packages available.
