I hope they aren't excluding motorcycles from the definition of scooter. many ride motorcycles to save gas as well to save money and the environment and to also allieviate traffic congestion, yet you aren't even allowed to park motorcycles in most parking garages in columbus.

Bigger cities allow sidwalk parking as long as it doesn't impede foot taffic. this does 2 things, reduce congestion and allow for more street parking for cars, and encourages more environmentally friendly modes of transportation

Thanks roy, thought that was the case, as I've had many people speed cycle through Schiller and then yell that the dogs are in their way...when they aren't supposed to be there in the first place.

The scooter parking issue seems simple but it's not. No bikes or motorized vehicles on sidewalks is the local law, but you may walk your bike along the sidewalk.

Last year a cyclist/scooter enthusiast on city council worked with the police department on the scooter ticketing problem, and CPD conceded that motorized mopeds--the kind with pedals--would be exempt from the bike rack prohibition. But hardly anyone rides mopeds, even though they have a high geek-cool factor and get a zillion mpg.

John Ross wrote
dru wrote i was told by a 'friendly' traffic cop who was ticketing my scoot that anything with a license plate is illegal on city sidewalks. but it does present a bit of an issue, because as others state I don't want to take up an entire parking space.

i think the law states that any wheeled vehicle is prohibited from sidewalks, except those aiding the handicapped. that's whay there's been some talk over which group segways fall into.

I thought there was some exception for under X years old too, like 16 year olds and under on a bicycle.

neela wrote I heard in the Other Paper there was a letter talking about emissions of scooters. Anybody have a link or scan to this letter?

I read the letter. It referred to the old vs new scooter mentality and made the point that old scooters are not environmentally friendly.
