There is still time to volunteer for the Fiery Foods Festival at the North Market, this Saturday, February 21st! The first event of the year will feature hot and spicy foods, fiesta music, a hot wing sauce contest, TWO chili cook-offs (one for chefs, one for customers), TWO hot wing eating contests, cooking demonstrations, roving entertainers and kids’ freebies.
We really rely on the help of volunteers like you to help make our events successful. FIERY FOODS FESTIVAL VOLUNTEER DUTIES
Cooking Demonstrations (4 volunteers 8:45-12p)
-Help with CaJohns Cooking Demos in Dispatch Kitchen, plating, serving, clean up
Information and Kid Giveaways (2 volunteers 11am-2pm)
Volunteer duties:
-Pass out free sombreros and maracas to kids, while supply lasts.
-Table will be set up at the main entrance inside the North Market
Chef Chili Cook-off (4 volunteers 10:30-12p)
The contest will begin at 11:00 a.m. and be held on the 2nd floor of the Market – northwest
All entries need to be received by 10:45 a.m.
First place prize is $200 in North Market gift certificates & “North Market Chili Champ” trophy
Chili will be judged on aroma, appearance, consistency and taste.
Volunteer Responsibilities:
-Check in entries and direct participants to their pre-assigned locations.
-Portion out chili and serve to judges.
-Stock judges’ table with water, spoons and tasting cups.
-Tally results of professional judging.
-Issue each entry with a generous supply (at least 50 of each) of napkins, tasting cups and spoons. Replenish tasting cups to entries (note: we went through a lot of these last year!) as well as napkins and plastic spoons as needed.
-Sell wristbands to tasters for $5 each
-Help clean up.
Customer Chili Cook-off (4 volunteers 11:30-1p)
The contest will begin at 12:00 p.m. and be held on the 2nd floor of the Market – northwest
All entries need to be received by 11:45 a.m.
First place prize is $100 in North Market gift certificates
At least 3 ingredients in recipe must have been purchased at the North Market (verified by receipts)
Chili will be judged on aroma, appearance, consistency and taste.
Volunteer Responsibilities:
-Check in entries, verify receipts and direct participants to their pre-assigned locations.
-Portion out chili and serve to judges and chefs who become judges.
-Stock judges’ table with water, spoons and tasting cups.
-Tally results of professional judging.
-Issue each entry with a generous supply (at least 50 of each) of napkins, tasting cups and spoons. Replenish tasting cups to entries (note: we went through a lot of these last year!) as well as napkins and plastic spoons as needed.

Hot Wing Eating Contest (4 volunteers 1-4pm)
-Help with CaJohns 2 hot wing eating contests in Dispatch Kitchen
-Have no fear of working with hot sauce
-Serve wings to contestants, help clean up
