via paving the way:

Crews will be installing decorative arches on North High Street at two locations which will require street closures on Saturday (10/3) between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., weather permitting. Access to local businesses will be maintained.
One closure of High Street will be from Lane Avenue to Norwich Avenue. Traffic will be detoured to Neil Avenue for this closure.
The other High Street closure will be from Hudson Street to Arcadia Avenue. Traffic will be detoured to Indianola Avenue for this closure.

I heard the arches are going up sunday the 27th I believe (the base poles are already in place), and i think the bike racks will be in any day now

From the city’s plan:

“Two over-the-road arches…..one at Lane, the other at Arcadia….to welcome people to Old North Columbus

This section of High Street will be signed for motorists and bicyclists…as part of the 8-mile share-the-road corridor from Downtown all the way to Morse Road. Forty new bicycle racks will be placed in this area.”

I’ve yet to see “Old North Columbus” arches (desperately needed to ward off that horrible “North Campus” label, as there are only a few OSU buildings in the area and is not actually part of the campus) or any bike rack for that matter. Maybe those be up during the last week?

I’ve ridden this stretch of High and had no problem taking the lane, except for some bumpiness, though at night I could see that being a bigger issue. Since they’re wrapping up, I’m sure they have this stretch of High signed for the “Share the Road” campaign started back in May (remember that?) . I’ll head up soon to count how many signs are up.

@walker, hmmm didn’t know that. I guess my “drivethrough patience mentality” makes that project seem like it’s been going on for 5 years. I didn’t look up the projected completion date. Thx for the facts.
Riding a bicycle through there is like putting your life on the line or riding a mountain bike course. :)

I actually know first hand of someone at City Hall who reached out to try to help Kelli through the construction phase, but it unfortunately wasn't enough. It sucks that construction projects can take such a negative toll on businesses.

saddest part about this construction: as i was watching project runway on dvd with my girlfriend (hey that show is awesome…i went to art school) i saw Kelli Martin show her boutique in Columbus called Black Market which closed because of the construction, now how could Columbus let such a big deal in fashion and for Columbus take a nose dive and do nothing about it?

The original timeline announced for this project had a completion date of "Fall 2009".

Thank goodness this will be over soon. It will improve the area in the long run. Now hopefully something happens to that gas station just north of the hound dogs.

Eh considering the High street project is about 2 miles and Henderson is 0.5, I’d say they’re not too different.
