This past week we saw a flood of second trailers for previously announced films as we officially start the summer blockbuster season while FOX unleashed their own flood of tv trailers to start hyping their fall lineup, which seems so far away. As always, our “Trailer Roundup” series provides a sampling of what’s coming soon each week for our pop-culture and multimedia-savvy readers. Here’s the latest and greatest:
Ghostbusters
The Ghostbusters reboot got a second trailer treatment last week, and the internet has been torn in its response. There are equal parts “this looks better/funnier than the first trailer” and “you’re still ruining my childhood” commentaries swirling every blog, reaction video and YouTube comment section. No matter how you feel, the movie is coming. Expect it in theaters on July 15th.

The BFG
Speaking of second trailers, here’s a second look at Disney’s Steven Spielberg’s Roald Dahl’s The BFG. The new trailer gives a closer look at some of the action and excitement to be found in Giant Country as Sophie teams up with the BFG to figure out how to outwit the larger and scarier giants. Hits theaters on July 1.
Star Trek Beyond
And another! The third Star Trek since the JJ Abrams reboot in 2009 also got a second trailer this past week, keeping the excitement churning along for the summer blockbuster season. This time around we get a bit more from the supporting cast and a bit less Kirk-on-a-motorcycle scenes. In theaters on July 22.
Pop Star: Never Stop Stopping
Again! Can’t stop stopping these second trailers. The Lonely Island’s new outing reveals a couple of more gags, including Seal getting attacked by wolves, pooping on a tour of the Anne Frank House, and calling the Mona Lisa a basic bitch. Arrives on June 3rd.
Lethal Weapon
This iconic film franchise is getting a reboot via the small screen when Lethal Weapon lands on FOX this fall. If you’re not too old for this shit, you can join the new Riggs (Clayne Crawford) and Murtaugh (Damon Wayans) for some new adventures. And don’t forget about Ted Chaough!
The Exorcist
FOX is full of film-to-show reboots this season, with The Exorcist coming to this fall’s lineup as well. Join a couple of priests (plus Geena Davis) as they fight off demonic spirits, not with shotguns and chainsaws, but with the power of religion.
24: Legacy
Sequel? Reboot? Call it what you will, but FOX will be bringing the format of 24 back online later this year with 24: Legacy. Instead of Jack Bauer, this time we’re following the real-time adventures of Eric Carter (Corey Hawkins) as his military past catches up with his family life after his witness protection cover is blown. Race the block again this fall.
The Mick
Ok, here’s an original one from FOX. Kaitlin Olson (Sweet Dee from Always Sunny) plays a washed up Aunt who’s forced to take care of her niece and nephews while her rich sister spends some time in jail. Think Mr. Deeds meets… well… It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Making History
And another tv show from FOX (they released a lot of fall trailers last week). Creative gurus Phil Lord and Chris Miller are producing a new time-travel comedy about two men who must set history on the correct course after one of them screws it up. It looks like this first season primarily centers around 1775 and the start of the Revolutionary War, but could potentially go anywhere if future seasons if it sticks around.

Don’t Think Twice
For a lot of comedians — standup, improv and writers — the aspiration to be on Saturday Night Live is a force that drives a lot of their work. Comedian Mike Birbiglia puts this concept on paper with Don’t Think Twice, a story of a group of aspiring comics who struggle to achieve success and struggle after they’ve started to find it too. In theaters on July 22nd.
Gran Turismo Sport
The world’s favorite hyper-realistic driving simulator series gets a spin-off on the PS4, which is not a main entry in the series, and instead is designed to focus more on cometitive gaming via eSports and virtual reality support via the new PlayStation VR headset coming in October. Either way, those cars sure do look realistic.
