New Stores Opening in The Short North

By: seandude

The Short North will be seeing a total of eight new retail/food options in the coming month. Be sure to make a trip to the Short North and check them all out. There are atleast five new fashion/clothing stores opening, all look like really nice and hip and like a great addition to the Short North.

NEW CLOTHING/FASHION STORES

The Muse off High- WATCH out for this one. It describes itself as “a wide collection of eclectic and unique fashions from all around.” This is located on the Price Park brick walkway, in other words across from the pocket park that is next to the MoJoe Lounge at the cap. The store should be opening sometime this week (early October.)

Collier West- Across the Street from Union Station and will be opening in NOVEMBRE.

Little Shop of Shoes- Located just north of The Happy Greek and next to CowTown Art. This store will feature a wide collection of hand bags and shoes all at reasonable prices. An opening date has not yet been posted.

Jewelry Store- This unique jewelry store will be opening soon and is located next to An Open Book and MAC’ S Cafe/Bar.

American Apparel- This is located right just south of High Five in the northern part of the Short North at 5th and high. American Apparel features clothes from downtown LA, CA.

Gallery Opening

Kathryn Gallery- Will be opening where the Riley Gallery has been for years. Watch for a NOV opening, most likely at the NOV gallery hop.

Food

Bodega- Is opening in the mid section of the Short North just south of Little Brothers. This unique carryout and deli looks like it will be cool and something to check out.

Surly Girl Saloon- This new bar/restaurant will be opening in the former location of Downtown Connection. The place is owned by the same owner of Betty’s. The food options will be more reasonably priced than Betty’s and the inside of the Saloon will feature great live music and DJS. The building was originally a Brothel and the bar/restaurant is going to include quirky decor and atmosphere, providing memory of the building’s crazy past.

  • Nice! I can’t wait to check out Surly Girl. ;) Will be sure to try to check out the rest of these new places soon.

  • Is that Muse place the resale clothing shop that used to be by the Lennox and then moved to the Short North for a little while up around Dr. Mojoe and then disappeared? Maybe they can get it worked out this time.

  • The Gypsy Cafe Hookah Lounge will open between UDF and The Full Monty, across from the Rossi, and will feature exotic beverages, coffees and hookahs. They will feature local DJ talent and be open late (well past bar hours). I’ll keep you posted

  • Did that place change owners? (Wasn’t it a tatoo parlor/wifi/cafe?)

Or are they just trying something new?

    Sounds cool!

  • The tattoo shop is upstaris. The space downstairs has new tenants. If seen the work going into it. They will have nice lounge seating both on the ground floor and downstairs, plus a patio in the rear.

  • I’ve never been to a hookah bar…if I were to go I would want to spike the bowl as the thought of bong hits of tobacco sound unappealing. Can someone describe their appeal?

  • I went to one in Evanston, IL once and thought it was stupid. I don’t really like to smoke though, so that may of had something to do with it.

  • I’ve heard that they have different flavored/exotic tobaccos. So it’s not like you’re just sucking Camels through a bong. I’m not a smoker either, but I guess that’s where the appeal might lie.

  • you def. need to try it once. it’s very relaxing. it is not like a bong at all. the flavor is very nice and not overpowering. i doubt you’ll cough. i’m not a smoker either, but a hookah is def. something i’ll smoke.

  • Anne, I know just what your talking about. You said there was a resale clothing shop that was by Lennox and then near Planet Smoothie. It was called Modern Persona. And when it was at lennox, it was next to “Millenium.” oh god what memories

LOL wow ya let’s just say they were interesting people, the owners. Cool chicks though.

It’s funny that you thought Muse might be the same owners as Modern Persona cause I wondered the same thing. I looked in Muse’s windows the other day when i was at Cup O’ Joe and it looks like it’s newer fashions, not resale. We will just have to see if it’s the same “store” though.

I drove past tonight…they were inside setting it up. The clothes were being put on the racks which means opening day is just around the corner!

In the meantime, you can checkout their website at:
