New Restaurant Coming Soon to Wexner Center

By: Walker

The cafe space located inside the Wexner Center has been operated by the Cameron Mitchell Catering Company as “Cam’s on Campus” for the past three and a half years, although the concept came to a recent close in August. The Wexner Center is currently in the final stages of selecting a new local operator for the cafe. Rumor has it that a variety of proposals were submitted from places including Northstar Café, Mozart’s Bakery, The Betty’s Family of Restaurants, Taste of Belgium Waffles, Omega Artisan Baking and even Whole Foods.

One thing we do know for certain is that Taste of Belgium will be temporarily operating the cafe with a mobile setup starting on Monday, August 30th and running for the next two weeks. Their hours will be from 8am to 2pm and their menu will be limited and focused on coffee and waffles.

The announcement on the winning proposal and new cafe operator is expected to be made sometime in the coming week.

  • BFR all the way, especially if they can be open before concerts for some pre-show snacking and imbibing.  A girl can dream!  Guess it depends on what the Wex is looking for – a breakfast focused place or a full service cafe that can also complement all of their evening activities.  Definitely seems like one rises to the top of that heap in that regard.

  • I’m right with you on BFR. The others are either too one-noted or expensive. BFR does everything well from hot dogs and sandwiches to great big salads; it would be PERFECT for that location.

  • Keep in mind that these are just rumors of what I’ve heard from a few sources, and that the alleged proposals submitted from these restaurants may not just be a new location of a previous establishment, but an entirely new concept proposed specifically for the Wex Cafe.

    Jussayin…

  • I get what you’re throwing down and I guess that’s my point, without seeing different concepts in action from the other “rumored applicants” it’s hard to even imagine what they would end up doing.  With BFR we’ve all seen their success with multiple concepts and the ability to adapt to the environment with which each restaurant exists.  I assumed the article was posted to get people talking about the possibilities.  My bad if that wasn’t the intent.

  • As someone who works on campus, I can say that I’d be excited for any of these concepts! Although yes, BFR would seem to be the most dynamic at handling that location.

That was totally the intent. Just wanted to add a little explanation so that people didn’t misinterpret the original post to somehow mean that a BFR proposal = endless possibilities while any other proposal = rigid structure of another establishment. ;)

Anyway, I agree with Nick that any one of these restaurant operators would be a good fit for the spot if they are in fact proposed and selected for the space. Looking forward to the announcement!

  • Thanks for the nice comments, everyone. Betty’s Family of Restaurants has removed their hat from the ring. Our best wishes to the next cafe operator!
