New Deli Adds to Revitalization of Parsons Avenue

Development on Parsons Avenue is continuing with the addition of a new bistro. Jimmyluka’s, a bar and deli, will open at 701 Parsons Avenue this August.

Owner Jimmy Dragich bought the two-story space seven years back, just before construction started on the Nationwide Children’s expansion. Dragich, who owns Affordable Floor, a ceramic tile marble contractor, has always had restaurant aspirations.

“Something I’ve always wanted to do is have a little bar and deli, and I thought ‘why not?’ Hopefully this area turns into the next Short North sooner or later,” said Dragich.

Remodeling the space, a former boarded-up residential structure, has been a slow, but rewarding, process. Plaster walls have been knocked out to reveal exposed brick, and handsome hardwood floors have been installed. The 1,500 square foot space will seat 60, including a 10-seat bar. Customers will order at the deli, then have a choice of either dine-in or carryout. The menu is still in development, but deli sandwiches, salads, and high-quality drinks will be the focal point. The bar will serve beer, scotch, and cocktails.

Dragich is targeting the lunch and happy hour crowd from the nearby hospital, where nearly 7,500 employees work. He’ll additionally rent out two newly remodeled apartments on the second floor of the building.

“I’m excited to open up the community and clean up the area,” said Dragich. “I’m excited to be a part of developing Parsons Avenue in the beginning stages. I just want to have a good thing going at the edge of German Village.”

Jimmyluka’s will be one of several new developments going up along the growing Parsons Avenue area, including a second Crest Gastropub. Jimmyluka’s will be open seven days a week.
