From The Dispatch:
Tax credit to transform historic buildings into Downtown hotel
Thursday, December 10, 2009
By Alan JohnsonThe Ohio Historic Preservation Tax Credit will pay for rehabilitation of the Hayden Building. The building will be converted into an upscale boutique hotel.
The newest boutique hotel Downtown will be built by rehabilitating and combining two historic buildings and using a $4.6 million state historic tax credit. The Hotel Indigo will utilize buildings at 16 and 20 E. Broad Street, immediately next to the Rhodes State Office Tower.

Tax credit to transform historic buildings into Downtown hotel

Nice view of the new boutique hotel *HERE* (Using Bing Maps). Sounds like a great project.
Pretty cool! What’s the schedule?
Great news!!!
Sweeet. Glad to hear it.
Nice!
Anybody know what happened with the boutique hotel that was supposed to take over the United Commercial Travelers spot across from Goodale Park?
Will this hotel use the car park service by the key bank building? Curious where the cars will go.
What happened with the Yankee Trader building – weren’t there plans in the works for a boutique hotel there as well?
10tv also mentioned the building on Front next to the new parking garage in the Brewery District will get funding for residental units.
Good news. Will fit in nicely. Wonder if Pearl alley upgrades could be included?
The second half of the biz journal article today mentioned the Brewery District building as well… I remember hearing that when they built the Grange garage they went ahead and installed a tunnel to the Born building as well, no confirmation on that though.

No news on the “UCT Block” in almost 2 years. I’m guessing something fell apart with the financing or the project got pushed to the backburner for some other reason.

I don’t think they ever had solid plans for a hotel. The owners were exploring the possibility, but again… after two years with no news, I’m guessing there was something (money?) preventing it from happening.

pumped, but jealous that I’m not in on it…
I can only hope that it is much better than the Hotel Indigo we stayed at on a recent trip to Chicago.
I’m actually not all that stoked once I saw it was a Hotel Indigo. They’re just a branch off the ichotelgroup bunch (holiday inn, etc). They can’t really be compared to a true boutique chain like Kimpton (at least not from the level of service I got from them this fall).
I dunno. I stayed at a Hotel Indigo in Atlanta a few years ago and it was awesome. Rates seemed reasonable for the quality of the hotel. “Boutique” sounds like a bit of a stretch though if it’s a chain. I would say “if it’s not unique, it’s not boutique.” I hope it has a classic hotel feel to it, with actual keys instead of key cards and retro furnishings that fit the history of the building it’s in.
despite the questions about the owner/operator being truly into boutique, i think this is great. it should encourage more after 5 traffic around the statehouse square, and it’s a great addition to the block. those buildings have been largely ignored as long as i’ve been here.
Any conceptual renderings around? I’m wondering how, or if, they plan to match the facades.
The Winter Pearl Market is holding their first indoor season in the ground floor of this building. I imagine they’ll have to find a new space. Would be cool if the hotel kept some of the ground floor available for retail tenants.

Plans for a Downtown hotel are moving forward again. A St. Louis hotel operator is in contract to buy two historic buildings across from the Ohio Statehouse that would be turned into a 117-room Hotel Indigo.
Plans are for the hotel to open as early as summer 2012.

A St. Louis hotel operator that had a deal to renovate two historic buildings across from the Statehouse into a boutique Hotel Indigo has backed away from that plan because of financing concerns.
