New Apartments Planned for 11th Avenue
A new development in Weinland Park will bring 16 apartments to a wedge-shaped parcel at the corner of Grant and 11th Avenues in the University District. Two separate buildings will each hold eight units, all with two bedrooms.
BBCO Design is the architect and J.C. Hanks of Legacy Management Services (LMS) is the developer. Zoning variances for the project were approved by the University Area Commission’s zoning committee in late 2015, and then by City Council in February.
The new buildings will sit close to the street, with a parking lot situated behind. The site, which has never been developed, sits up against the railroad tracks that separate the Weinland Park neighborhood from Milo-Grogan.
In an early letter in support of the variance request for the project, the developer cited Wagenbrenner Development’s restored row-houses just down the street — as well as its large multi-family development planned for Grant, south of 11th — as evidence that the area can support a mix of new and rehabbed apartments.
A representative of LMS said that the new apartments feature “high end construction,” and will be “ideal for young professionals and students.”
Other projects by LMS include the East Village apartment complex on 11th Avenue, the Summit at 1895 Summit Street, and the Benchmark on Henderson Road.
