Neighborhood Launch Expands with Bishop’s Walk

By: Walker

The Downtown residential development known as Neighborhood Launch has begun construction on their next phase, dubbed “Bishop’s Walk”. The new building is located facing Gay Street between Fifth and Sixth Streets and will be home to 27 new units, half of which are expected to be completed this summer. The new building will feature a traditional brick facade and the sidewalk space will be home to a “Promenade Park”, the only one of its kind Downtown.

“Locally, we have proven to be one of the most desired downtown locations, providing an active lifestyle and a unique urban living experience, ” said Jeff Edwards, president of Edwards Companies, developer of Neighborhood Launch.

Upon completion, Bishop’s Walk will be include 14 townhome units, 12 garden flat units, and 1 bridge unit.

  • Just to put things in perspective…

Neighborhood Launch has 47 existing units and with Bishop’s Walk adding 27, that ups the total to 74.

When the whole project is complete, they’ll have 300 units which means that with Bishop’s Walk they’re only 25% complete with the whole thing.

This project is going to have a massive impact Downtown when all is said and done.

  • That just made me shed a little tear of joy.

  • Am I wrong or was the original plan to build a contemporary 5 story building of flats on the corner.

    Either way, awesome news.

  • that wasn’t in the original plan, but just something they were kicking around.  I’m not sure if they scrapped that or not.

  • According to this article, that building is planned for the NE corner of 6th & Gay – one more street down past Bishop’s Walk:

Another building planned for the second phase is a five-story structure on the northeast corner of 6th and Gay streets that will include mostly one-bedroom flats. Edward said he’ll determine which will kick off the construction depending on which types of units are preferred in the final building of the first phase, which is going up along N. 5th Street.

In this image, the left “phase 2″ block is Bishop’s Walk and the right “phase 2″ block is the 5-story building:

  • this looks great. i just got back from a weekend in chicago, and there were some very similar houses/condos right downtown too. it was refreshing to walk by 2-3 story houses instead of the same old tall office buildings, there is definitely a place for these low-rise buildings downtown.

  • I definitely agree with that post. Lower density structures definitely have their place in some areas of downtowns.

It adds a nice little pocket of human scale urban design.

  • I think the artist rendering looks great – a bit classier than some of the other developments downtown. Has a brownstone look to them.

    +1

  • I know there is another thread about the 5 story building being proposed but I couldn’t find it so I thought I’d just post here ….. the building is still a go, but the location has changed.  It will now go at the end of Gay Street.

  • When you say the end of Gay Street, what end of the street are you talking about?  Intersection?

  • Yeah… the end of Gay Street (Downtown anyway) is at Washington. Which is the Motorist Parking lot and CCAD buildings.

Anyway, I just sat down recently for an interview with Jeff Edwards and he said that the 5-story building was still planned for the same spot, the NE corner of Sixth & Gay.

Perhaps surber is referring to the 7-story non-Edwards apartment building recently announced at the SE corner of Gay & Grant?

  • no, 6th and gay is the spot I was thinking about.  I had it in my mind that is was in a different spot, whoops.  Either way, this building looks great.  Walker, will you be posting that interview soon (or did you already?)

  • Haven’t posted it yet. Should be up either this Friday or next Monday.

  • Two construction update photos from yesterday:

  • This is flying up!  I love it!!!

  • Some new construction photo updates:

  • Looks like they broke ground just East of this building to expand on it. Good market demand. (sorry I have no pictures).  These are selling fast.

  • Yeah, I ran into someone who does PR for NL the other day and she mentioned that they had broke ground on the second half of Bishop’s Walk. I drove by and saw the giant hole in the ground the other day. Not much to look at right now, but should essentially look like a continuation of the same building when completed. ;)
