Neighborhood Launch Expands with Bishop’s Walk
The Downtown residential development known as Neighborhood Launch has begun construction on their next phase, dubbed “Bishop’s Walk”. The new building is located facing Gay Street between Fifth and Sixth Streets and will be home to 27 new units, half of which are expected to be completed this summer. The new building will feature a traditional brick facade and the sidewalk space will be home to a “Promenade Park”, the only one of its kind Downtown.
“Locally, we have proven to be one of the most desired downtown locations, providing an active lifestyle and a unique urban living experience, “ said Jeff Edwards, president of Edwards Companies, developer of Neighborhood Launch.
Upon completion, Bishop’s Walk will be include 14 townhome units, 12 garden flat units, and 1 bridge unit.

This whole project has been a model, imo. No drama like Ibiza or Jeffrey Place, and gorgeous new homes that look like they belong in the heart of downtown. I’ve been really impressed with these developers.

What he said. Beautiful, classy, and sophisticated!

+1 @ mbeaumont ….. now that the CCAD dorms opened there is a new “life” to that area. Once NL fills in the rest and the new apartment building gets put in…. this area is going to be an amazing place to live!

Yes. Because this is what we REALLY need downtown! More overpriced condos that no one is buying!!
February 5th, 2010 at 10:36 am
Is this development exclusive to Catholic priests and bishops?

theonlynikki Says: More overpriced condos that no one is buying!!
According to this Dispatch article from Aug 2009, 37 of 47 units at Neighborhood Launch were sold or had buyers. The article also says that most condos were priced between $200-400k.
I’m not sure what you consider “overpriced”, as that’s a subjective term, but to claim that no one is buying them is highly inaccurate.

I like that the developer is taking their time and giving each new building a unique design. Too many new developments want to save money on design by making every building look the same. It doesn’t matter how great that design is, the repetition makes the whole thing look stale to me. Each building looks great individually, but I know if they had taken the original 4th street building and continued down Gay Street with the same facade, I wouldnot like this development nearly as much.

Maybe it will be easier to bring well known retailers downtown in a few years if they know people have the money. Soon retailers will find out that people have the money to spend living just a few blocks away…wish list for gay street (or anywhere downtown) Apple, West elm, Diesel, and Jamba Juice!!

The win level is high in this sector

+1 @ weeler360 It adds so much more visual interest and pedestrian appeal to have different facades to look at as you walk or bike by. You know what else adds interest? People! I’ve slowly been seeing more people walking around the area. The garage on 4th is also increasing foot traffic which adds more of a sense of security. This all very encouraging.

I”m excited about the “Promenade Park”!! Should make for a very nice walk down Gay Street
February 5th, 2010 at 12:46 pm
The Promenade Park sounds very intriguing :) Is it a retail promenade?
February 5th, 2010 at 2:02 pm
@ Jon Meyers
It is a block from the Cathedral and the Bishop’s HQ’s. Maybe Bishop Cambell can give a benediction and blessing?
Gay St Promenade makes me chuckle.
I sure have given plenty of pedicab rides to people who reside in these new downtown lofts and condos. Would love to see that trend increase.

What gives me a laugh is the fact that the Catholic HQ is next to Gay & Young. I mean, really now, what are the odds? It’s priceless.
Anyway, the cafe building was left out of the rendering, but like I said it’s no big loss. There are like 10 vacant retail spots just up the street on Long. Hopefully with all the residential development on Gay and just off of Cleveland we can expect to see those filled. In the meantime, support those already taking a chance on Long: B1 Bicycles, Slammers, and Cook Shack BBQ.

so glad i stopped driving and parking over there…all the lots will be built up soon. the neighborhood is looking a lot better, thumbs up!
February 5th, 2010 at 4:52 pm
These are some really nice looking condos! Very urban and they will tie in well with downtown and the rest of Gay.
I believe what they mean by “Promenade Park” are really enticing, green sidewalks.

I live in Neighborhood Launch. Say what you will, but it is a wide cross section of really great people from all over Columbus. Obviously, not everyone thinks overpriced condos, as age range is about 25-60.
February 6th, 2010 at 12:41 am
I love this project. Initially I was against it, but seeing how it’s developed it’s great. I can only hope the project completes its goal of re-developing the whole area they sought out to do. love it.
February 6th, 2010 at 9:15 am
Just to put things in perspective…
Neighborhood Launch has 47 existing units and with Bishop’s Walk adding 27, that ups the total to 74.
When the whole project is complete, they’ll have 300 units which means that with Bishop’s Walk they’re only 25% complete with the whole thing.
This project is going to have a massive impact Downtown when all is said and done.

That just made me shed a little tear of joy.
February 6th, 2010 at 9:52 pm
Am I wrong or was the original plan to build a contemporary 5 story building of flats on the corner.
Either way, awesome news.
February 6th, 2010 at 10:58 pm
that wasn’t in the original plan, but just something they were kicking around. I’m not sure if they scrapped that or not.
February 7th, 2010 at 10:14 am
According to this article, that building is planned for the NE corner of 6th & Gay - one more street down past Bishop’s Walk:
Another building planned for the second phase is a five-story structure on the northeast corner of 6th and Gay streets that will include mostly one-bedroom flats. Edward said he’ll determine which will kick off the construction depending on which types of units are preferred in the final building of the first phase, which is going up along N. 5th Street.
In this image, the left “phase 2″ block is Bishop’s Walk and the right “phase 2″ block is the 5-story building:
