Mayor Coleman is seeking suggestions from urban enthusiasts here at Columbus Underground on what neighborhoods and specific areas are in need of additional bicycle parking solutions. These suggestions will help to shape the development of the Bicentennial Bike Plan. Advice is needed specifically for areas in and around Downtown, including the Short North, the University District, Brewery District, Near East Side, and Franklinton.
Please make your suggestions as specific as possible, and if you see a suggestion that someone else has made that you also like, be sure to post that you’d also like to see it as well. The ideas that get the most support will be most heavily considered for installation.

in Goodale Park
in Park of Roses
in any city park for that matter
at Crew Stadium
at Promowest
on High near Skully’s/Surly Girl
Right outside Warehouse Cafe
Lane and High (Really any where and everywhere in UD)
In front of every door of every downtown highrise. In front of the Statehouse entrances.
We also need bike stations: places where you can not only lock up your bike, but change clothes & grab a shower before you head to work.

Isn’t that called an apartment?
I’m just sayin…
Statehouse has bike racks. The look like hitching posts.
I think German Village is in need of a bicycle parking rack right near the Golden Hobby Shop in the middle of it’s commercial sector. A lot of urban enthusiast and community oriented people frequent there.

They’ll cut your lock and take your bike. Just ask Mercurius. Those hitching posts are for horses and horses only.
The problem you have, liz, is that these bikes appear to be breeding.
You’ll get nowhere fast if you leave them coupled up, drunk and unsupervised out front yer place.

Funny, my bike does just fine there.
Zettler Hardware would not mind having one on Main Street. I hear they get cyclist customers daily
CJ Daniels got one, all the cool kids are doin it. You know you want to.
BTw Walk. who pays for these racks? I think I better know what I’m asking for here before I get too crazy.
It’s being done as part of the “Bicentennial Bikeways Plan”, but I’m not too familiar with how that is being paid for.
Ultimately, don’t we pay for everything in one way or another? ;)
Bicycle and car interactions is currently being discussed on WOSU as “open line show” with Maryellen o’seanasy (spelling?) and some other folks.

The Councilwoman just said that if a business calls the city and requests a bike rack that the city is responsible for paying to put one in.
interesting. Makes sense, though since the city owns the road right-of-way and some part of the sidewalk is included in that.
Might be more efficient to ask people to post if they DON’T want a bike rack in front of their businesses.
Efficient for the users of said bike racks or the city? :-)
side note: It’s pretty funny to see my bike front and center in that photo.. Based on the saddle I have on I’d say it was late summer last year.
Those hitching posts are obnoxious!
The short north needs one near the cap.
The short north needs one near Bodega/Paradise
German village needs one near Cupajoe/Starbucks
Grandview needs one near staufs/carabou
One outside Metro gym
one outside wharehouse cafe
Interesting that all these places are on my travel routes.
It’s easy, really. Put them in front of each office building Downtown (don’t forget Town St). Covered parking would be great. Have them strewn along commercial corridors like High St, 3rd in German Village, 3rd Ave in Harrison West, Grandview Ave, Arlington north of Waltham where that mini-downtown is, Indianola where Studio 35 is, King west of High, 5th west of High, near businesses on Neil, etc. Just put these in front of urban businesses all over the urban core. Don’t forget about streets like E Long, Mt Vernon, W Broad, Cleveland Ave, etc. And none of those bike racks like the light blue one in the graphic. Those are horrendous and I hope someone is going to be trying out different models of bike racks instead of just putting any old bike racks out there.
