Nationwide Children’s Hospital is steadily working its way through Phase Two of its Master Facilities Plan, which calls for seven new buildings in and around its main campus. The largest of the new buildings, the nine-story Big Lots Behavioral Health Pavilion, is currently under construction on Livingston Avenue and slated to open in 2020.
Also under construction, and scheduled for completion by the end of 2018, is a four-story office building/parking garage at the corner of South 18th and East Fulton Streets. Moody Nolan and Walker Parking Consultants are the architects and Corna-Kokosing is handling the construction.
The new building will house office space for non-clinical employees and parking for more than 1,100 cars. Its location provides easy access to the main hospital campus, which sits just to the south, on the other side of I-70.
The block immediately to the north of the new building – between East Main and East Mound streets – has been used as a parking lot during construction. That parcel, vacant for decades, has been known as the Buster Douglas site since the former boxer bought it in 1991. A plan to build mixed-income apartments on the lot fell through after it was proposed in 2015.
