Multiple Openings & Closings at The South Campus Gateway

While OSU students are away for the summer, the South Campus Gateway is undergoing multiple changes to retail and office spaces. Most significantly is the addition of Steiner & Associates as the leasing management team for the Gateway. Steiner is best known locally as the operators of Easton Town Center, but also has years of experience with other retail centers around the US.

The prominently located Oxley’s Tavern & Grillery at 1576 North High Street has closed after less than a year of operation.

“The owners of Oxley informed us of their desire to focus on other business interests and subsequently Oxley closed last month,” said Amanda Hoffsis, President of Campus Partners and Senior Director of Planning and Real Estate at OSU. “We are already fielding inquiries from prospective tenants and we’re confident that we will shortly have an exciting announcement for the use of that space.”

California-based Yoga Six is opening a Columbus location at the Gateway at 1624 North High Street, in the former Finish Line space. The yoga chain offers a wide variety of classes and workshops.

Men’s suit shop Pursuit is closing their South Campus Gateway pop-up shop and relocating to a permanent home in the Short North. They’re expecting to have the store ready for a preview during the July Gallery Hop with a grand opening following sometime shortly after.

Pizza Rustica closed its doors back in March, leaving another empty space in the Gateway’s alley. The local franchise owner of Pizza Rustica opened a Downtown location last year, which remains in operation.

Demolition is expected to begin on several properties that were previously announced as being free for the taking, provided that they could be relocated. The demolition will make way for the expansion of the Gateway, being developed by Edwards Communities.

World of Beer is still working toward opening their third Columbus location this summer at the South Campus Gateway. The opening was originally slated for March, but construction continues and the bar is now hiring for the anticipated grand opening.

Last but not least, Wendy’s has opened 90° Labs, their innovation center offices on the second floor at the Gateway in a spot that formerly housed several different nightclubs over the past decade. The 8,200 square foot space houses 25 tech professionals for the company that work on pioneering projects for the company.

“Our goal is to create an agile working environment, with a dedicated cross-functional team, that will enable us to take greater advantage of rapidly evolving technology in all areas of our business,” said Emil Brolick, President and Chief Executive Officer, The Wendy’s Company.  “The labs will be an important asset in Wendy’s continuing transformation, as we work to drive growth by making our restaurants more inviting and by giving consumers greater access to our brand through technology.”
