More Photos from the Opening of The Scioto Mile

By: Walker

The Grand Opening of the new Scioto Mile park was held this evening. Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, visitors relaxed in the new Bicentennial Park to live music while children (and a few adults) splashed in the fountains. The new Milestone 229 restaurant held their grand opening and was packed with a long line for those willing to wait.

Below are some more photos taken this evening of the new Scioto Mile:

  • Great photos, Walker! We walked around for a while after dinner tonight. I loved the whole park. Can’t wait to come back and let our son play in the fountain. Between this and Columbus Commons, things are looking great for downtown. I love having these open spaces to go and play with the kids.

  • I am so in love with the new park!  The scale is dramatic and fills the space perfectly, the fountain is so fun and the mist will be fantastic for those hot outdoor events like Jazz and Ribfest, the landscaping, the speakers along the mile, the great logo signs that everyone was taking pictures of, Mayor Coleman walking around (can we make that a regular thing?), I love that the steep wall is gone in favor of grassy slopes down to the river, there are lots of places to sit and watch the stage or the fountain, it’s a really fantastic, well designed and well executed space.  Well done, everyone who had anything to do with this!

  • Thanks for posting the photos Walker.  We had a really successful first night and appreciate the support of the park.  Christian

  • The park looks amazing!  I can’t wait to check it out on Saturday!  I really want to play in the fountain!  Too bad people will think I am crazy as a 28 yo  :-/  LOL  Great pictures Walker!

  • Christian – No problem at all! Can’t wait to return to try out the restaurant when the lines die down a bit. ;) Maybe we need to be planning a CU Happy Hour meetup there. I’ll send you an email if you’re game!

  • I drove by this Sunday and was disappointed that it was all still fenced off. It looks awesome.  I think every city needs a central fountain for kids to play.
