When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, Erin Moore and Jess Faller had a thought: What would happen to musicians in Columbus if disaster struck here?

“We started thinking about all of the musicians we know who didn’t have health insurance,” Moore said. It was an issue that hit home for Moore because her brother, Tiara drummer Brian Moore, spent part of his adult life as an uninsured musician.

So the pair started the Columbus Music Co-op as a way to help fund music-related causes and to provide an emergency-assistance fund for

musicians.

“Health insurance is a huge issue that people don’t really understand until Donna Mogavero falls off the stage and breaks her hip,” said Faller, a working musician who plays in the Bush League All-Stars and Chris McCoy & the Gospel. “I can talk the talk with musicians and know the general needs that they’re lacking. Many musicians are working jobs that don’t give them health care.”
