Moonlight Market Returns to Gay Street for 2016 Season

The Moonlight Market will make its return to Gay Street this summer for a fourth season of Downtown shopping, dining, drinking, entertainment and more. Every Second Saturday from April through October, the event hosts special late night hours for brick and mortar businesses while sidewalk vendors pop-up for a night of artisan and locally sourced crafts and product sales.

The Moonlight Market was created in 2013 by the Gay Street Collaborative, a Downtown business association that wanted to help boost sales at local independent businesses in the area while giving locals a new reason to come Downtown and celebrate the things that make Columbus unique. The event has rapidly expanded to feature over 120 vendors and businesses during each event, spanning over three city blocks.

“The Moonlight Market is a great event for us,” said Tammy Hurley, owner of Studio 33 Salon & Spa. “We set up to sell hair accessories — however, we love having the opportunity to have a face to face meeting with people that are potential clients for our salon and spa that is located Downtown.”

Gay Street is already well known for its brick and mortar businesses, retailers and restaurants who host special promotions and features. Some of the businesses participating in the Moonlight Market include Cafe Brioso, Zeroz, J. Gumbo’s, Due Amici, Tip Top Kitchen & Cocktails, Plantain Cafe, Cafe Napolitana, Phatt Taco and more.

The Moonlight Market is excited to have Telhio Credit Union returning as a season sponsor for 2016. The locally-based credit union has been a part of the event since 2013, maintaining a vendor booth to represent its Downtown location at 96 North Fourth Street, right around the corner from Gay Street. Telhio’s financial contribution to the Moonlight Market allows for increased marketing, additional entertainment and other support. The Moonlight Market receives additional support from Capital Crossroads Special Improvement District.

Additionally, the Moonlight Market is an official partner of the Greater Columbus Arts Council (GCAC) Street Performer program, which connects local musicians and entertainers with community festivals in Central Ohio and provides matching funds so that performers can be paid a fair wage for their artistic talents.

“Community and diversity are the best parts of the market,” said local musician Joey Hebdo. “I’ve gotten to play music for so many nice and engaging people. Receptive and kind individuals galore.”

The Moonlight Market is free for shoppers and visitors to attend. The first event of 2016 takes place on Saturday, April 9th from 6pm to 11pm.
