Modo Yoga to Hold Pet Adoption Event

“She rescued me,” Modo Yoga co-owner, Chad Underwood says about Midge, his 4-year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback he adopted. Underwood owns Modo Yoga with Elizabeth Moore, who also loves animals.

“Midge came at a time where I needed to realize that I was responsible for more than myself,” says Underwood.

Midge is now the mascot at Modo Yoga. Midge greets students arriving at the 1042 Dublin Road studio with a wagging tail or perfect down-dog. Lucky dog! Other animals should be so fortunate, and Modo Yoga wants to help.

This Friday, November 10 from 6:30 – 9 p.m., Modo Yoga has a special ‘double feature’ as part of their usual Karma Yoga events that benefit worthy causes. Citizens for Human Action (CHA) will bring adoptable animals to Modo to “meet and greet” and a special art sale will benefit the CHA animal shelter.

Every Modo Yoga studio nationwide (Modo is a locally-owned studio) picks a charity to work with each quarter.

“With my and Elizabeth’s love for animals, working with an animal rescue shelter was a natural fit,” he says. “We got hooked up with the CHA through one of our friends and student, Alison Bechtel, who is Volunteer of the Year and a board member at the CHA animal shelter.”

100 percent of funds from the $5 karma yoga sessions done at Modo Yoga from November through January will go to CHA.

Another way that Modo Yoga is helping animal rescue is by working with local artist, Christy Gerlach.

“Her work is amazing,” Underwood said, showing me the portrait Gerlach did of Modo Yoga’s mascot, Midge. “She does awesome commission work. Animals are a focal point of her paintings.” She is also the mother of Corey Gerlach, one of Modo’s teachers who did Modo Teacher Training in Nicaragua. Gerlach will donate 20 percent of sales from private commissions and artwork sold via Modo Yoga to the CHA animal shelter. Her art work will hang at Modo Yoga through January, 2018.

Sideswipe Brewing will be providing beer for the pet adoption event on November 10. The owner of Sideswipe, Craig O-Herron, is not only a martial artist but yoga student at Modo.

The studio also partners with Four String Brewing for “Killer Yoga + Killer Beer” events where $10 buys not only an hour of yoga but also a first pint of craft brew. Next year, Modo plans to restart their popular Yoga + Tacos events at Cosecha Cocina.

Modo Yoga is located at 1042 Dublin Road only a mile from Downtown Columbus. Modo does hot yoga in a variety of styles, including their original Modo style which is gentle, yet hot, hatha, and they also have flow yogas. Modo Yoga has a very pleasant atmosphere and also multiple showers on site.
