    Modo Yoga Columbus Celebrates Anniversary

“You all look supremely serene,” says the yoga teacher at Modo Yoga to the students relaxing at the end of flow class this weekend. Modo Yoga has been at 1042 Dublin Road in Columbus for over a year, and not only do they regularly have good, hot yoga, but they are ready to celebrate with a big giveaway and several discounts.

On June 29th, Modo Yoga has free classes all day to celebrate their first year.

“We are first and foremost grateful and also thrilled that our one year anniversary is this week and that we have the opportunity to offer what we love to Columbus!” says co-owner Elizabeth Moore. The free classes start at 6 AM, and the 8 PM class includes a “Happy Hour.” Deals offered include a Columbus Marathon package of unlimited yoga at $89 a month or 32 classes for under $300, and more.

“The Columbus Marathon is a wonderful event that does great work for our community,” says Moore. “We see a lot of parallels between them and us … additionally we know yoga is an excellent complement to running; keeping runners in balance and helping them stay healthy for their long runs. Our student community includes runners, so we worked with the Columbus Marathon on their kick off party which featured yoga class for runners. We also offer special packages to anyone with a registration for any part of the marathon.”

Modo Yoga was started by yoga teachers in Canada who wanted a relaxing hot yoga program in a nurturing environment. Modo in Columbus achieves those goals by having one of the hottest rooms in town (temperatures are well over 89 degrees F at the start of classes), kind words of instruction, and soothing surroundings. From the chocolate-colored ceiling and lovely cork floors, to the homey cushions in the lobby everything at Modo says, “relax.” Modo is also one of only a handful of hot yoga studios in Columbus that has multiple showers, and they are the only yoga studio to build in a transgender bathroom.

Columbus-natives Elizabeth Moore and Chad Underwood met at a Modo class in Cincinnati in 2013. After years of working in high-pressure corporate jobs and taking the intense 500-hour Modo Yoga teacher training, they both took a leap to start Modo Yoga in Columbus in 2015.

Recently, Underwood and Moore were joined by Dave Driver, first as a student, then a teacher and now co-owner. He discovered Modo at their large studio in Minneapolis which holds 5 to 10 yoga classes a day. As his ailments started disappearing with a regular hot yoga practice, he found that yoga became a “passion.” He and Elizabeth met at teacher training in Victoria, and he now makes regular trips from Minneapolis to Columbus.

Modo Yoga does several types of classes, some with music, some without, and has a very warm room for good sweats. I never come away from Modo without feeling relaxed by the yoga, the staff, and their welcoming atmosphere. The anniversary celebrations and specials make it a good time to check out Modo Yoga at 1042 Dublin Road.

Also, to celebrate Red, White and Boom, on July 1st Modo has a family-oriented Flow Yoga + Cookout session for $40. Modo’s location on Dublin Road between downtown and Grandview offers a great view of the fireworks. Reservations are required.
