The latest in Italian style cuisine is opening in the Creekside Gahanna project on Saturday. Mezzo Italian Kitchen and Wine, at 130 Creekside Plaza, off Mill Street, will feature pizzas, pastas and entrees in an upscale casual setting.
“We can hold up to 60 people on our outdoor patio overlooking Big Walnut Creek,” manager Jon Cohen said. The patio will be open year-round, thanks to a special heating system built into the awning.
The restaurant also features a stone-brick pizza oven with a wide-open view of the kitchen, where Chef Dave Dovell reigns.

I can’t wait to go! I also like their branding
Went last night–the atmosphere is incredible! Loved the ambience. I liked most of the items I tried (mista salad, pizza, salmon) except the mushroom appetizer…way too salty and it actually tasted like something my mother used to make with worcestershire sauce–not good. They have a lovely wine by the glass selection and the bartender is a wine genius!
Definitely going again.

Mezzo is the other kind of Italian restaurant in town, a white-tablecloth experience with elegance and flair.
It’s located in Creekside, a new multi-level development in Gahanna that uses neo-urban design principles for a stunning visual. A fountain in its piazza-like center is visible from the prime seats in Mezzo’s lounge and dining room.
The restaurant itself is simply gorgeous, with brick, wine bottles, wrought iron and executive woods evoking a country-inn atmosphere. The lounge area is attractive and modern, and its noise is well separated from the dining room.

Mezzo is the Italian word for “half.” Perhaps this implies that the Gahanna Creekside restaurant calling itself Mezzo Italian is, then, half-Italian.
Though Mezzo’s other half might remain unspecified, I’d say it likewise derives from a tradition of good food. Because unless you’re expecting a 100-percent true Italian eatery in Central Ohio — and why the heck would you? — Mezzo can treat you to a very nice evening out.
Mezzo is opulent enough to look alluring, low-key enough to feel relaxing and energetic enough to have a buzz about it. And it’s smartly lit. Mezzo uses this sleek lighting in collusion with rough-hewn and polished woods, wrought iron and terra cotta, plush curtains, exposed brick and waterside views to dramatic effect.

Ate at Mezzo on Friday, was not impressed.
Had the mushrooms al forno and the gnocci bolognese. Enzo’s take on the mushrooms rang true for me, and I’d add that they went way overboard on the balsamic. The bolognese sauce was ridiculously sweet… dining companion tasted it, and the biggest WTF grin appeared on her face. I said “Chef Boyardee?” and she replied, “exactly what I was thinking!”
Which is a shame, because the space itself is beautifully designed, and the Creekside development is pleasant as well.
Nonetheless, probably won’t return.
I have been going about twice per month and have decided to stick with this killer salad with grilled shrimp and a glass of wine….perfect. I just love the ambiance so much but am not deviating from the salad for awhile. Pizza crust is soggy lately too.
Seriously the best patio in Columbus…..they have a lounge patio and dining patio and it was awesome last night. I went with some of my girlfriends from my previous life and it was awesome to be on their patio/veranda—they changed their menu. Although I did not care for my main entree because they added a super salty disgusting drizzle, the polenta was to die for!!
Weds nights happy hour, The Acoustics of McGuffey Lane’s Terry Efaw (His play was great, my recording is poor). http://www.mezzoitalian.com/
Wanted to add a link to the Creekside Development definitely worth strolling around the fountain and park area. http://www.creeksidegahanna.com/
Restaurant review: Mezzo

Breezes stream in, swirling aromas of garlic and flowers on the patio of Mezzo Italian Kitchen. But this Gahanna Creekside restaurant – which can easily claim one of the most scenic patios around town – has more than heady scents to distinguish it from the rest of the outdoor-seating pack. In fact, its standout features are boundaries of eye-candy-like swaths of water.
