Melissa Starker is Leaving The Alive

By: Walker

Melissa Starker, Arts Editor at The Alive, announced on her blog “The Bad & The Beautiful” this morning that she is moving on after 11 years of working for the weekly paper to accept a new position as the Sales and Marketing Manager at the newly revamped Gateway Film Center:

“My gratefulness extends to so many local artists, curators and filmmakers who shared their work with the city and took some time to talk with me about it. Sure, I may have given you some nice coverage, but in a lot of cases you enriched my life, so I think I got the better part of the deal.”

  • I love Melissa. I will miss the heck out of her column. This is a sad, sad day for Alive.

  • I think this is great for Melissa and even better for the Gateway. I’ve worked with her on a couple of projects in the past, when I was PR for Glass Axis and she was great. Good for you, Melissa!

  • Have fun Melissa!  You’re always so supportive and everyone will miss your writing and enthusiasm

  • Congrats on the new gig!

  • Oh Melissa, there won’t be a dry eye in the office when you leave. Columbus Alive was so much better because of you. But you know, your talents will be welcomed into the new Landmark – Wexner Theater. They’ll need some direction as they search for their new identity.  I  look forward to what the theater will become under your guidance!

  • A great move for M. Starker, but a sad day for the arts in Columbus. I hope there is some soul searching before they fill that position. The Alive seemed like the last hope for art press in this city and will need extra help now.

  • Big shoes to fill here….really big shoes…

  • Wow that is a crushing blow to Alive.  I foresee them spiraling down the pit of irrelevancy.

  • Always happen to see good things happen to good people. Congrats on the new Gig!

  • This is incredibly sad news for the businesses that have come to know Melissa.  It is rare to have someone in her position who cares so much about the city and its businesses.

  • Melissa, You have always been a beacon in the Columbus Intellectual scene. Your new post is only a resting stop in your eternal journey of life.  When ever I needed a source, you gleefully provided it with undeniable proof!

I do hope you make it to my first Solo show in CMH in over 25 years of the beautiful “Women” of Columbus.. Arts Initiative. June 3 – July 23.

You will be missed at one venue, but be loved on your bext step in this jpurney we call life!

    kisses and peace out!
