MAJOR ARTS ORGANIZATION MAY SHUT DOWN!

By: Katie

Whether you like opera or not, the possibility of losing Opera Columbus, our region’s largest professional opera company, in the next few weeks is a very distinct possibility and one that would be detrimental to Central Ohio as a whole. One of the reasons Columbus is so great is because of the “thriving” arts and music community. If Opera Columbus is teetering on the brink of non-existence, who’s to say other major arts organizations won’t soon follow? Many of the arts organizations are suffering due to the current state of the economy, low ticket sales, and even lower contributed income. Then, of course, there are always the political maneuverings that add to organizations’ woes.

If you ever find yourself wondering which bar (I like ‘em just as much as you do) you should go to next, I sincerely ask that you to take the time to check out what major arts organization events are going on around town. Whether it’s an Opera Columbus, BalletMet, The Columbus Sympony Orchestra, Jazz Arts Group, etc…. event, you just might be surprised and enthralled by what you find!
