MadLab Theatre will launch its 2006-07 season a bit early by taking a laudable risk on a local writer’s new play. Objet d’ Art, a comedy by Jim Azelvandre, will open tonight at the funky fringeof-Downtown theater space, 105 N. Grant Ave.
The oneact focuses on a young New York woman who is pursued by a stalker or secret admirer. Someone, anyway, keeps leaving mysterious gifts and cryptic notes outside her door. And when her father, brother and ex-husband try to solve the mystery, more problems arise.
“It’s kind of a Marx Brothers parody, with a lot of slapstick and broad humor and the characters loosely inspired by the Marx Brothers films,” said Azelvandre, 38.
