  • As if it weren’t already dead. They might as well just lock the doors now.

  • At this point, it is probably best that everything in there closes. There has to be some rock bottom at which something is done. Maybe the deeper that rock bottom is the better the turn around.

  • I thought it was closed?

  • City Center should keep operating the food choices and then turn it into and adult playground of sorts….indoor climbing, bowling, tennis, indoor golf, pay per Wii. yoga studio, pilates studio, massage, acupuncture, standard gym, dance club, creperie, sporting good store, indoor skate park, indoor ski run or super slide, skate rink, obstacle course and walking path around so people who work downtown can get exercise during winter months that used to enjoy walking the mall….it would be awesome and prevent us from being an overweight city.

  • This is awesome news! Thanks for posting it!

The sooner the whole thing gets shut down the sooner we’ll get something new out of it.

    And a clearance sale in October…. nice… 8)

  • i liked where you where heading with this

i liked where you where heading with this, then you kinda lost me.

    :D :D

Oh well of course something like that would be VERY entertaining and would burn calories and keep folks fit, but not sure about zoning for such an endeavor :D Maybe we could offer COUGAR seminars.

  • No wonder they never put up a more permanent sign…

  • Just a matter of time before that was coming. A sad demise of a prime chunk of real estate.

Macy’s Inc. has announced it is closing its Columbus City Center location.

The Cincinnati-based retailer said it will begin a clearance sale in mid-October with plans to close the location’s doors in November.

“While Macy’s remains deeply committed to the Columbus community, the continued decline of customer traffic and business levels at City Center have led us to the decision to close the store this fall,” said William McNamara, chairman and CEO of Macy’s Midwest, in a release. “We will be working with the mall’s owners to find the most productive long-term use of the Macy’s space.”

  • There was a Macy’s downtown…?

  • I wonder if that would have been the last straw for the Simon Group that lead them to just hand the keys of the mall over to the city. I once heard about a plan they had for the mall, but I wasn’t told when that was going to happen and it now doesn’t look like it’s coming to fruition anytime soon.

  • please keep me posted on when the controlled demolition of City Center will occur. they should do it Vegas style…

Assuming you’re serious — yeah, it was the old Kaufmans. The only Kaufmans converted to a Macy’s in town as a part of the merger, as far as I know. All the others used to be Lazarus.

  • F.Y.I: When City Center opened, it was Marshall Fields (notice the replica of the Marshall Fields Chicago clock in the center of the store). When Fields closed it became Kauffmans, then Federated took over Kauffmans and it became Macys (with the temporary banner sign). Federated, now Macys, is still having problems with the decision to get rid of all the regional named stores and thinking they could be the king of them all.

How about a Target downtown at the location of Stantons Music?? I shopped there when it was a supermarket!!!

  • I agree with Walker maybe this will be the final jab to start the city’s take over of the mall. It is time to move on and redevelop this bunker.

I was actually kidding. What’s the emoticon for sarcasm?

  • Wait … there was a mall downtown?

  • yep

  • Where did you hear that?
